Facebook Executive says Bitcoin Is Gold 2.0 Chamath Palihapitiya, the longtime Facebook executive who now runs The Social + Capital Partnership. Likening Bitcoin to the "red pill" from the movie "The Matrix," which exposes those who take it to a hidden reality, Palihapitiya sounded as bullish as could be during a Q&A at TechCrunch Disrupt NY on Monday morning. "We are entering a complete world of uncharted water right now," he said. Palihapitiya says: "I personally own Bitcoin in my hedge fun, I own Bitcoin in my fund, I own Bitcoin in my private account. It is a huge deal. It's a huge, huge, huge deal. Because what you're talking about right now is, for the next three to five years, an unbelievably better stored value. It is gold 2.0. Right? The value of gold that hedges the world economy, about $9 trillion, right? Thirteen hundred an ounce, of which only a hundred to a hundred and fifty dollars is the actual production value. So all the rest is imputed.... Well, guess what? I can do the same thing with Bitcoin only I can do it outside the purview of every single government. It's being used everywhere you would think it would be used. Russia, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Venezuela, Argentina. Everywhere you have currency pressure. Everywhere you want to basically shield your assets. And then, after that, it will probably become a payment mechanism."

To da moon! If this is the new bubble phase forming in BTC, I think we should see the current price exceed the previous highs - before seeing a rapid decline (just like gold and silver prices).
I changed phones.. now my 2FA doesn't allow me to access my online trading account. Have contacted them but they want me to produce screen shots & IP address info. I've also moved house & changed isp.. so I guess I've lost all my btc
If it's stored at an online trading account (e.g. BTCMarkets), you can email support, and then be able to access your BTC.
Hey yennus, happy NY & thanks for turning me into a Panda fan. Yes, am digging up addresses etc screen shots which were easier than I thought to find, support are helping me through it. Seems my little bitcoins have gone up in price
Thanks STC, nice to hear those kind words of encouragement. I'm glad your BTC is hopefully retrievable. Hopefully your net worth just ticked a few notches up
With the deposit box you'd probably just need to show your drivers licence or passport, plus Medicare card or something. With 2FA (two factor authentication) it can be a real pain in the ass if you lose access to your old phone number. I keep my old phone and SIM around just for 2FA now.
One thing I have just realised about bitcoin is that it is the domain of the "smarter and wealthier" which is a pretty good crowd to be rubbing shoulders with I reckon just like Silverstackers Not all "alternatives" are good especially in a world that offers millions of alternatives, but maybe bitcoin and other alternative currencies can offer a special place moving forward well out into the unknown of the 21st century.
