I've recently had 2 pretty big issues. Earlier this week I ordered (10) 1993 maples. I recieved (7) 2003's and (1) 2011. WTF?!?!?! *GOT A REFUND* Today, I open the mailbox after ordering a 1994 ms69 eagle. What's inside the package?!?! A 1993 ms69. UUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ireceived a $1700 empty plastic coin sleeve once. The international seller decided not to include my coins. That is why I don't buy or sell internationally from anyone other than large companies. I like the option of having the police involved if fraud is committed.
Had a mate buy a $1400 laptop and upon reception got an expensive ream of paper, mind you it was Reflex.
I tried my luck with a romanian seller once with 2 x 50 mexican gold pesos. What came in the mail was a fake 100 korona and 2 silver coins. Opened a dispute with ebay, which I won thankfully. The icing on the cake was that USD got stronger throughout my ordeal and I actually made a neat profit when I got refunded.
I'm still waiting on payment for 3kg bars that I sold on eBay last weekend, with spot price now lower my concern is growing. I bought 4 proof Cuban coins from a Chinese eBay dealer once and they all weren't great, one was quite bad and they weren't like the pictures. I complained about the bad coin and I got a refund and they didn't ask for me to send it back, so as long as it is actually silver then it was free silver.
The gypsies tried that on me when I was a young fella. The turtlers nearly got away with 800 before I copped on and grabbed the cash bag. Got a free laptop bag out of it so pretty good result.
Funny you mention this. Just got a fake 2014 panda from China. Expecting a refund ASAP. CLEARLY a fake. Didn't even have to take it out. The ebay listing showed a genuine picture....what was I to do? lol
"CLEARLY a fake. Didn't even have to take it out. The ebay listing showed a genuine picture....what was I to do? lol" Deal only with reputable Chinese dealers.
I know you can get great deals on eBay but I am always weary of the website and have never made a purchase on it. Non coin related items as well. And I probably never will. Call me a huge skeptic but I just rather purchase from legitimate, large companies (APMEX, Provident Metals, and directly from the mint). Yes, you might pay a higher premium, but you're pretty much guaranteed to get a real coin that has the quality described.
Bought a Canadian murano glass coin, delivered with glass broken. Ask for return, seller says he is not a shop and ask me open a dispute with the post office. Too late to leave a negative feedback.
If it was through eBay you should make a claim via paypal. They protect the purchaser well in legitimate cases. I.e take the money from the sellers paypal account and then do an investigation.
One time I was buying collored diamonds and a reputable seller either got hacked or decided to run with the money and put a hundred auctions up and never intended to sell the diamonds. I got an instant refund from paypal. Have never had a problem other than that. Just have to be carefull who you buy from and know what to look for.
When buying from eBay make sure you make a claim within the designated period. And always have the PayPal account linked to your credit card. That easy if PayPal go against your claim then you can contact your Bank/visa/mastercard etc to make your case. It worked for me.
Open a claim and got a "go ahead" to send back item for refund. Unfortunately, package got lost within Canada postal system (with tracking showing within Canada Post) and PayPal request me to appeal when package is delivered. Seller refused to answer me on whether package delivered. Now waiting for claim (a fraction of the item price) from my postal service. Not all eBay and PayPal are same, I guess.
Few times got wrong coins (some sellers try to blame postal services) so I started to record everything (first to show the package (unopened) and then entire "opening" process)
