I did a quick search on ebay Germany and the 1990 bullion kooks averaging $80.
I am going there in February and may be better to take them instead of cash.
Any other hot items there from Australia?

Germans are crazy about the carded RAM 1oz Kangaroos if you price them right.
I have sold over 200 of them to Germans in the past six months.

Yes. A German dealer just bought my 1990 Kookaburra. Wonder what's going on there.

The price on 1990 is well over 2 times any other years

    VAT related perhaps?

They factor in a vat as a valid amt to pay over spot for things they desire.

No wrong about that, 1990 Kooks unc go for about 60 Euro and proof 65 Euro. Jeepers.

I recently picked up a whole slab of 1996 kookaburras. 10 to a slab for $370.

Also a group of 1995,96 and 97 kooks for $103.

I wouldn't pay over about $38 for them at todays spot prices. Maybe the Germans know something more about the mintage.

I think Golden here was saying they could get freshly minted 1990s kookaburras, but perhaps that doesn't include 1990 itself?

The Germans are very hung up on mintages.

The 1990 is the first year of issue had the max mintage limit and was 4 x oversubscribed. First year is the reason for the popularity.

One German dealer had series of first 20 years of Kookaburras, freshly minted. They were a hit, but the year 1990 was missing from the set, I guess they could not order it or something. So in order to complete the set, collectors are looking everywhere for the 1990.

Where did you pickup the slab of 1996's? I just picked up a slab of 1997's for just under that price and keen to purchase more of these.
    Cheers

Just curious Steve, are they paying a considerable premium over the spot for these Ram kangaroos or the same as modern day Lunars etc?

I bought a box of 300 for a good price and just dumped it for $3 or $4 above the going rate of a Kookaburra.

Ebay same seller as you :) didnt bid on the one you won due to a computer glitch :)

Nice win. They're a bit of a rarity so hang on to it for the long run.
