Fellow stackers, I had a stop over in Dubai yesterday and checked out the Gold store inside the Airport, this store mainly sells jewelry but they had one section selling gold bullion. Wow is all I can say here. They had in stock various coins of all sizes and brands, I was surprised at how big the 1kg perth mint gold coins are, bout the same size as a 10oz silver coin. Also 1kg bars. The prices and premiums on the coins were very good, about 170usd for a 1/10. Did not have the chance to pick anything up as had a very tight connection to make. Was not allowed to take photos of the gold but just letting other stackers who are transisting through that this place exists.
Ag I didnt see any? Its a very chaotic transit Airport. On my return I will get some photos as I will have more time to explore. I did see a promo briefly where you can go into a competition to win a 12.5kg pamp gold bar or it could have been 2.5kg bar and this is a monthly competition. Also this Gold store was very busy and people were buying bullion, one guy I saw picked up about 10 x 1oz pamp bars. Did not see any silver bullion on display.
Did you see any of the "Ginis" They look like sovereigns, with George the somethings head on them but they aren't. Took me a while to work out they were meant to be "Guineas" Never bought anything there though.
Jislizard, yes I noticed that about the "ginis" They had kruggers of all sizes, ase, buffalos, maples, lunar coins of all sizes, kangaroos and also some coins that were local emirate coins. Pamp bars of all sizes from 1gr to 1kgs On my return I will get some fractionals as the pricing was very good and good flipping potential. lol. 1oz coins were not much over spot in usd, about 10-15 over.
Really? I will have to look more closely next time I pass through. Last time I looked I thought the premiums were quite high, and as such I buy my gold in Deira gold souk. I've been buying pamp 20g bars at about 35 US over spot, although premium were lower last year. I would think usually bars are lower premium than coins. 1oz coins from the vending machine are 100 US over spot or thereabouts.
Hi Glam, welcome. Good to have a user from UAE on here. I am not too sure where I was, had just come off a 13 hr flight so was quite hazy. It was the larger gold market selling jewelry.
I remember heading through terminal 1 on my way to doha and stopped by the bullion counter and they had a good collection of bullion coins from around the world, but the premiums were over 10 percent. silverfunk, on your way through could you check and note the complete list of what they got or maybe take a pic. Ag, No the gold vending machine are in malls in Dubai like Mall of the Emirates and Dubai Mall.
As a general rule, if you were on Emirates, you were in Terminal 3. If another airline, then it was most likely Terminal 1.
I use emirates a fair bit to go to the UK. I'm heading back in August but VIA Singapore airlines! Doh... would love to check it out.
Was going through Terminal 2 on Monday morning (18th July) 7:00am local time. Spot was about 1595 US$ going by the historical kitco graph at 17th 11:00pm NY time. They had 1 oz gold roo's, maples and panda's for 6544 Dhs (1778 US$), 1/2 oz for 3328 Dhs (904 US$). Lots of other stuff but didn't note any other prices. All the prices were on a display sheet on the counter, and I asked the lady how often they change the prices. She told me whenever the head office sends them the new prices. So I guess you just got them on a good day, and they had not changed the prices yet!
