I happened to be in town today and dropped into Downies for a squizz and see if there was anything nice of offer. Pleasant surprise indeed! They were doing singles of 2010 kooks and koalas at $43, or I think they said $38 if you're buying 20 or more (!!!) They were also selling Silver Trade Unit coins! $37 each! Even for singles! They had about 25 left when I went. I also saw a 1994 Kilo Kook for sale at about $1180 I think? 10 oz 94 kook for $380. Also picked up a VF 1937 Crown for $40 They were also doing 1927 Parliament Florins for $15 a pop (they had quite a few) Also snatched up a $10 coin for about $20 (a little over, but it was in pristine nick) And even nabbed 2 x Silver American Dollars for about the same. They also had 1966 50c coins in bags of 50 for about $560 or $580 (didn't get the exact price) and I saw at least three bags of those for sale. As well as an older 50oz Silver bar (unfamiliar mint mark though) Downies have silver at the moment and their prices are competitive against spot. Very pleasantly surprised with my little haul. It was like a lolly shop...'I'll have one of those, 2 of those, 3 of those, 2 of those...' Get it whilst it's cheap boys... Dunno tbh. I definitely looked very hard at it, I assure you $38 per oz in a 10oz PM coin = exceptional value considering spot. If I had the cash, I'd have easily blown a couple grand there today. Prices were GOOD on many items and I couldn't pass up the option of buying State $10 coins or American Silver Dollars (encapsulated as well). They actually a number of 37 crowns there graded and in cards for $40-$45. I stopped at one, but I could have easily taken the lot. And don't get me started on the 1966s going at UNDER spot... The Trade Units were loose and a little grubby, but they're so easy to clean it's laughable so I'll do those before I post shots.
Some good buys there Aus, I had the chance to visit Downies on a trip to Sydney last year, I thought their prices were quite reasonable. I bought a couple of ounces of coins, then ended up going back the next day and bought another 15oz's lol even the mrs bought a coin All in all it was a good trip.
The guys there were pretty cool and being centrally located, they get hold of a fair amount of silver for resale, not just from the perth mint, but from ordinary folks looking to sell. They generally just take them to the store, the store gives them X below spot or spot and then resell for a premium. I was stoked to get 1oz rounds for $2 above spot, I assure you. I've just taken photos, link coming in a sec.
me too when it comes to hearing about these deals BUT give the country living lifestyle anyday, go down to the vege garden pull fresh veges for dinner, over to the henhouse pick up a free range non polluted egg, stroll down to a non polluted river throw a line or two, walk back in fresh air, no sirens, no ...need I go on.
I grabbed the 10oz '94 kook for $376. Didn't know they opened on Saturday's but now that I do I might make the half hour trip into town more often.
