Just bought double sealed silver panda 2001 and wondering is it real or fake. Bamboo joints are not clear if compared. http://chinesepandacoin.blogspot.com/2010/02/2001-chinese-silver-panda.html look more like http://www.ebay.com/itm/2001-China-...770?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c6060969a I have 2001 D and 2002 and those bamboo joints are more visible and panda fur looks also different. maybe coming from different mint? plastic has "squares" pattern in three side and "rope" pattern in one side. weight is about 38,51-38,54 g http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/9756/img8351crop0.jpg http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/7922/img8354crop.jpg http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/3493/img8360cropl.jpg
Great thank you for the confirmation. I was bit worried spending few hour of thinking is it or not. After this I have 1 oz silver pandas 1989-2011 (All real, atleast I think they are) not every version thought Still little bit sceptical frosting ring is not so nice and smooth than others. How good are the fake ones? Is it easy to spot fake if you have it in your hand? update: http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...erid=mint.queen&ftab=AllFeedback&myworld=true I buy coin from this person. Yesterday 3 negative feedback 2 different person blaming that coins are fake... until yesterday 100% feedback.
Fake bears usually look really ugly: Take a look at TomD's fake and real 2002 Panda. http://forums.silverstackers.com/topic-9307-silver-panda-monium-1oz-2011-silver-pandas.html
Tested a Panda coin that was double bagged for a site member yesterday. Turned out to be 55% Nickel 45% Copper. It was a 2001 Mirror (If that makes sense to anybody) We had a real one to compare it too. That tested as pure Silver. Hate to say it, but the texture on the coins in the pictures linked above look a little bit suss. If you want to be sure, get it XRF'd and buy only from one of the Panda experts on this Forum. I'm not one, but I can handle XRF guns Hopefully the member who bought the fake will upload some sidebyside piccies for us all to learn from.
Jiman not sure which panda link is being questioned as real or fake but the three pics from your imageshack look fine to me and the double sealed weight at 38.5 grams is also were it should be. As I've stated on numerous occasions it is difficult to conclusively differentiate with 100% accuracy by photos alone but I feel good about your purchase my man. This link below is an excellent post by poconopenn who I consider one of the most knowledgeable and informative person regarding Chinese Pandas and Modern Chinese Coins. This web page written by him is extremely helpful for spotting fakes. http://reviews.ebay.com/How-to-spot-a-fake-silver-panda_W0QQugidZ10000000000966183
I took some photos throw plastic and capsule of 2001D, 2001 and 2002. Depends angle and how light reflect and so on how it looks. And if the fake ones look really ugly then I probably have real one. Anyway I'm going to buy new 2001 coin then I can make some comparison. And maybe I buy few fake one to see how they look in real life. Are those medal coins without 10 yuan sign same quality as fake ones usually are? http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/9629/2001dback.jpg http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/7384/2001d20012002front.jpg http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/8840/2001d20012002backa.jpg http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/953/2001d20012002backb.jpg http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/315/2002back.jpg http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/3898/2001backb.jpg http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/3136/2001backa.jpg Thanks for comments. (All imageshack photos are my coin. )

That could be a different die, showing a difference between mirrored surfaces and frosted surfaces. It's hard to tell from the pictures to be sure though. I don't know if any of you guys have been following the coin compendium development, but it will be excellent for sorting this kind of stuff out. Anyways, you either have a *really* good fake or have discovered a variety.
There are 2 features that makes me think it might be fake. One, as indicated by you - the missing leaf, two, the weight in grams. A double sealed panda weighs about 40g +/- 0.5g. A capsuled one weighs about 37g. Another feature that could give it away as either fake or resealed - the capsule. 2001 panda capsules are very thick. As seen in the blog pic. I can't see the temple side of the coin. The real one has plain stairs.
Not sure this will help any, but I just checked all of my 2001 and 2002 pandas, including a 2001d. They all have the pandas polished rear foot poking out from the bamboo beneath frosted leaves like seen in the picture above in the slab. I have OMP 2001s from Shenzen mint, and the seals have a different design and the mint name printed on the edges. The OMPs come in at 40g on my scales.
I got full refund. Seller is not in ebay anymore. Didn't have to send coin back. So free fake althought "waste" lot of time on this.
