I love my stack. It is small at the moment, but I admire it often.

Sometimes I stack up the coins in a tall column, with my one little bar on top. When I get more 1oz art bars, I will probably make a little pseudo-lego house out of them, just for shits and giggles. Taking my silver out and playing with it has become something I find reassuring, when I'm worried about my finances. I also like to carry a round or two in my purse. Beats the hell out of logging on to internet banking and looking at a bank balance.

    Am I totally insane? :)

    Yes.

Fortunately, many of us here are also insane so at least you won't feel lonely - there is nothing worse than being mad and alone.

When you first get one you take it out all the time and play with it and look at it. After a while you get used to it and don't take much notice of it anymore and in the end it hardly gets any attention at all. It's like being married ... hang on, that's what I've been talkin about. :|

I have a lot of grubby pre decimal coins. There is no need to clean them, in fact, it might even lower the weight a small amount.

They won't sell any better being shiney and clean but when you start off with a stack of grubby coins and end up with a stack of shiney silver t is quite satisfying, kind of like value adding to the hobby.

I prefer chinking to stacking, picking up a stack and then letting them drop one by one onto each other, sounds good but annoying for those watching the TV.

I did shine up a few threepences, before I learned that I shouldn't. I haven't shined anything else. A few are mint sealed anyway, which decreases the chinking fun. :(

Not cleaning coins is generally the best advice, I have checked mine out for varieties and low issues and those go in the album, the rest are worth nothing numismatically.

Plus there is cleaning and then there is cleaning! Giving it a once over with steel wool is very bad, soaking the coin in soapy water to remove the grease and dirt is merely 'restoring', and acceptable.

I don't chink my proof coins, that's for sure

No. I don't believe it's a good idea to get emotionally attached to any financial investment.

Yep, touchy feely with my little stack too :)

Something about those 10oz Perth Mint bars, they fit in your hand nicely and are pleasantly weighty for their size. Yeah, I'm also a little nutty about the shiny stuff Ag-ness.

Haha, I'm too new to know how to post pics, besides, I'd open myself up to snide "My stack is bigger than yours" jokes.

I am also a fan of the ting. "tingg!"
Mint sealing is a bit of a killjoy, and I have an eagle that won't come out of its airtite. It can remain untouched. ;)

You'd be crazy not to make the most of it's antimicrobial properties. Playing with your silver makes for safe play, go bareback without the perspex case I say.

There's a 1kg bar & 2 10oz bars on my desk as we speak that I've been meaning to put away for a fortnight... I'm partial to picking them up occasionally.
