eBay is flooding the market with FAKE GULO - GULOS (2007 Mongolia Wildlife Series). They are PERFECT copies of the original coins and COA. If you buy a coin from eBay and you suspect a counterfeit, know that eBay will REQUIRE YOU to send the counterfeit item back to the counterfeiter/seller in order to get a refund. If you are in the US and you send back the counterfeit item to an international location, you are COMMITTING A FEDERAL OFFENSE. eBay/PayPal does not care if its fake any longer, they no longer proceed with affidavits of destruction and they want you to commit a federal offense (mail fraud) to receive your refund. Note that most sellers selling the GULO GULOS are from Poland, Germany, Ukraine, Spain, and China Beware... In a good note...
I have 3 Wolverines. and 1 of each of others. how do you know some of them are fake?? Of course I kept reciepts of them from reputable dealers, but how can you be sure? I just wrote to CIT, I am going to wait for them to response. WOuldn't buy anything on ebay from China anyway
I contacted CIT, I sent them a link with pictures from an original and a suspected fake I bought in eBay. Then about 2 weeks later, the CIT Director sent me a reply saying that he reviewed the pictures and yes, that it was a copy. It was a perfect copy, but not original. I contacted eBay and told me that if I wanted a refund I needed to send the item back, I explained that it was mail fraud to do so and they didn't care a bit, so they closed the case dispute. I then went to my bank to put a chargeback. Then I bought another thinking, that I was not going to make the same mistake...guess what happened...yes, another fake. Even if the seller posts "original pictures" don't buy them. Specially if they are from the places I mentioned.
Oh wow, the chinese are getting really good ! Duh, they're making products for the whole world (including the laptops/smartphones you're using right now) haha!
This is the seller selling the fakes: The action below is I guess when they were starting, so they are not that perfect: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2007-MONGOL...6146583?pt=US_World_Coins&hash=item2c682a0a17 Then a year later he is back with better copies: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190827283893&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:CA:1123
If it's a perfect fake, how can they possibly tell? I can understand not buying them from China, but Germany would be my guess of where most of these are.
He is also selling Owls, but the quality is not too great...look at the words: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190827283913
Another reason not to buy modern numismatics if you really just investing in silver. Mongolia and China merge heavily geographically so i found the don't buy stuff from china edging on ironic.. i get that it was really a "eBay from china" stab but still. Proper Numismatic silver has orthodox aging effects such as circulation and toning 1for1
Like I said, CIT was the one who said they were counterfeits. Since they made them, I am pretty sure they can differentiate a copy from their design.
I think if you took the "gulo gulos" out of the title of this thread, what you'd have left would still be good sound advice.
so, how can you tell whether it's a genuine one or a fake? i've been planning to buy a "hedgehog" - would not buy from china, but there, i guess, is no guarantee that those from poland or germany would not be fakes...
I only buy from dealers that buy directly from CIT, and I would never buy any coin from Chinese sellers. I hope that CIT in the future will put holograms or secure marks like for banknotes on their COAs, this should make the copy more difficult. Alex.
