Don't get me wrong, I'm assured I've stuffed this up somewhere:p

Went to my dealer today to grab some 66 rounds (couple hundred) and he had a nice gold $10 eagle there for sale. I said how much, he says, ahh you probably won't want it... but if you do ill do it a little under spot for you right now. (that got me suckered in of course)

Anyways, paid for the rounds at $7.50ea, and he says i can have the eagle for $675

I was like yeah ok ( I've never bought eagles, but he said its just under half an oz) I was like ok sounds good.

Got home did some calcs and as far as I'm aware, 0.4838 oz of gold, meaning spot price should be $750 approx correct?

Surely I win buy of the day. Or am I forgetting something crucial. :(

Scale is in OZT - keep in mind its a crappy one from eBay, not overly accurate id say. Coin is worn, so it might account for the discrepancy but seeing the XRF myself I'm quite happy :)

Marks on the top half of coin are from where it was set into a mount for jewellery, it is by no means anything that a bullion grade coin.

Edit - got my initial calculations wrong (assumed it was 22ct gold - 0.91667 fine, when it's apparently 0.900 fine).

Sounds like you got an absolute bargain!

P.S. What did you say the name of your dealer was, and does he have any more $10 eagles for sale? :p

It's worth the trip for the $7.50 rounds. The eagle isn't in great nick but it's definitely worth 5-10% over spot.

Pm me if you feel like sharing the secret location of this place that spot prices forgot. Seriously, pm me :)
