Is it common to find damage on the rim of the lunar series II coins? im asking as the two coins i recently purchased both have damage on them.
Post a pic and let us have a look; never had that problem What I am finding is a lot of rim toning on the earlier lunar years. I don't mind; actually like rainbow toning on my coins. The last two boxes of mice I bought recently had rim toning on a few coins in all the rolls which is a bit annoying as some people are a little precious about what comes naturally with silver What I don't like is getting spot toning on the mirror fields; picked up a couple of tigers with these faults recently
Where'd you get them from, which lunars in particular and how bad is the damage? Some people take them out of the capsules and they can easily be damaged that way but if they're straight from the mint, a slight nick or two is not too unusual from my experience
Tarnish on the rims is usually caused by exposure to air polluted by sulphur e.g. in the proximity of cigarette smoke, open coal fires etc. Easily removed using bicarb / aluminium foil in hot water - see threads on this forum.
I have sold a about 10 lunar coins that have been taken from the rolls, only 1 had a very minor mark.
