You would be better off stacking the copper 1 and 2 cent coins if you can get them in any quantity.

    That's expensive for copper.

    Very expensive actually ;)

I still stack the 5 - 20c coins and collecting a nice little bucket full now. Probably a good 5kgs worth all up and counting.

The question is how to collate the buggers.

    $100 face value bags?

    100 coins in a bag?

    By the KG?

Yeah...copper coins are expensive now...particularly when you factor in postage.

Probably better to stack cupronickle while they're still easily available and you don't have to get them posted to you.

I've started collecting "silver currency coins" too now! I think a lot of us will regret not doing it. They will definitely be phased out in our lifetime....well if you arent too much of an old bugger:)

I dunnoh, there's probably $200 in 5cent peices. Kilo's of the buggers :) I haven't sorted them into lot-bags or anything....just as many as the zip lock could handle without breaking. I'm going for the coin rolls in the future.

What I am sure about is there's 200 1966 1cent peices there. I got them in probably the last decent haul of copper coins I've seen on 'the bay' for a while. I cleaned the worst of them with some citrus oil cleaner to get the gum/tar off and then into an amonia bath...came up a treat! :)

The grapes just come in bunches off the vine...

To my knowledge the dump and the holey dollar are the only coins in Australia to have been demonetised. I doubt the government would be demonetising 5c coins in a hurry - more likely they will cease mintage and slowly withdraw them from circulation.

Thanks, I didn't know that. Any, I'll keep chucking them in a bucket for now.
