Not as bad as i thought.

Parasitic or not id rather have an independent sovereign than some party hack president, ruling over me.

I like the way its a profile . The coin would have to be oval shaped to fit his ears on for a front on pic lol

I thought he would be facing left but I am sure there is a superstitious reason why he is facing the same way as QE2.

I know a lot of collectors waiting for the day they change the coins so they can retire their collections as complete. With so many new releases some of them are getting bored or broke. At least they can say they have a full set of QE2 dollar coins and then quit.

back in '52, the new QE2 had to decide what way she wanted her profile, and it turned out that most Monarchs facing to the right had enjoyed a reign of peace, and to the left, a reign of war.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading that the British royal family bring in something like eight pounds worth of benefits to the economy for every pound that gets spent on them.

A large chunk of the money goes towards the Queen's "work expenses" of being head of state, so even if Britain got rid of the royals they'd have to spend roughly the same amount on the new head of state going about the business of cutting ribbons and receiving foreign dignitaries and whatnot.

Another large chunk of money goes towards paying for the upkeep of all the castles and stately homes which are all heritage listed and need to be maintained anyway. Selling off Buckingham palace to a Russian oil oligarch might be a way of paying for it's upkeep, but there would likely be some issues.

George III traded all the revenue from the Crown Estate for a guaranteed super-pension from the government back in the 1700s. If I remember correctly, the super-pension (the Civil List) was scrapped recently in favor of the Royals getting a percentage of revenue generated by the Crown Estate.

Britain actually gets a pretty good deal from the Royal Family, even if there are knobs like Charles in it.

Not facing the right way and not the right crown as he is not the king.. if he ever is he will face right and have the pearl diamondy crown (the one we like)

I do wonder if losing the Queen's head on our coins will affect their collectibility. I thought the new king/queen had to face the opposite way, no choice in the matter.

All the haters are out. Go on, forsake the best civilisation of the modern world. Without the people at the top that have been there, and their reforms, since arguably the 1500's and definitely the 1600's, would you be so content in your life without our civilisation having the same private property rights, rule of law and curious mind in respect to science, invention and adventure.

Sure, Kings and the Queens Elizabeth themselves weren't the inventors or any of that, but without them we wouldn't enjoy any of it. And we wouldn't have survived the assorted purges, invasions, conversions, mass deportations, revolutions and economic disasters that have forced countries without the Common Law to start over again.

best civilization in the modern world? the US seems to be doing an alright job without the royal leeches. USD is pretty popular, technologically superior, arguably more freedom, bigger guns. Granted I'm not a fan of the US government either so don't read too much into that.

Back on the subject of the old hag and the rest of the family, they are nothing more than a symbol of elitism and that is what I despise. The fact the queen is not an absolute monarch pretty much makes her a nothing more than a leech right?
You're either for or against, there is no middle ground on the subject really so trying to sway opinions is an exercise in futility.

I think Australia should have cut ties ages ago personally, shame the majority of the population are just content to go with the flow.
It could be far worse though.
