If you can glue then you can make a custom box out of wood.

The designing takes a bit of effort but the actual making is pretty easy. I am not a woodworker, not since school many decades ago and I have nearly finished a mahogany box for my coins, nearly being the operative word.

Just takes time (for the glue to dry) and space (so you can spread it out and leave it to dry). You just need some clamps and a saw. I went crazy and bought a plane but I have no idea how to use it so it just sits there mocking me!

The last time I tried to get a professionally made custom wooden box it was going to be hundreds, I think about $600. Which is why I am making my own.

I have also made boxes out of cardboard held together with duct tape. Once you cover them no one knows what is underneath!

Unless you are going to have hundreds made in which case it might be worth getting someone in to sort it out.

I looked into getting some vacuuformed plastic containers made but it was going to be $1000+ to prototype the box and then $300+ for the cutting dies.

If the boxes are not too custom you can get the etui from Lighthouse http://www.leuchtturm.com/epages/leuchtturm_eu.sf/en_EU/?ViewAction=ViewSearchResults&ObjectID=5015

I made my one from a ready made power tool box. :D
PP grade 5 plastic. It will hold 200 capsules in them.
    Just like Professional Poker player.
All PP plastic. I am happy that I can modified the box.
    Interested Pmd me. ;)

Features light weight, durable, easy storage & stackable.

I like both of the ideas. I have this wooden box though which was made by a relative of mine in 1929. It was just sitting around gathering dust so figured Id see if i could re appropriate it. The actual box is in ok nick but I was thinking about doing the interior into some kind of foldout coin holder for kooks and possibly lunars. Im not sure what type of wood the box is but Ill include a couple of pics.

Looks pretty ideal to me. I am not sure if you have Perth Mint Black Tray.
The one that hold those 100 coins. In the original box.
Look very good size for two of the trays.

Judging from the pictures, I say it could be some kind of Oak timber.
Should be light in weight. If it have Dove tails joints on the corners it should be very strong.
Dove tails joints normally used for making timber boxes especially for wooden drawers.

Nice box, wish mine was that nice!

Are you looking for storage or display of the coins?

Engravers/Trophy shops with laser cnc machines can cut holes in acrylic to match the size of your coins fairly cheaply if it is for display purposes but they won't do wood for me, apparently it stinks out the workshop.

Looking to make it into a display box if I can make it nice enough. Oh yeah, theres one down the road from me.. Might duck down and see what they say... Was thinking even a antique restorer may be able to come up with something. Although Ill probably pay through the nose for it I suppose
