Hello Took a photo of some of my classical European silver coins - Note , each coin was the HEAVIEST silver coin that circulated in the region at the time. and in terms of gold was worth around 0.0425 oz - 0.0525 oz I have just uploaded the photos of the coins , and in a day or two, il upload Mintage and other such info and we can try and generate some numi-discussions ps. the Italian 5 Lira costs the most
Stunning photos,Thucy. The bottom left is my favourite You know what I like Great heads on the obverse I dips me lid..........
Thanks Thucy. Looking forward to more info. I quite like my Netherlands 2.5 Gulden, even if it is only 0.587oz Ag. The larger coins certainly have more appeal.
Bottom left was minted in Constantinople during the last stages of the Ottoman rule and it is 20 Kurush ( looks almost the same as the Egyptian 20 Kurush ) 2.5 Gulden are priced well, but those before Queen Wilhelmina there is one currently auctioned here http://www.ebay.com/itm/Netherlands...ultDomain_0&hash=item23136fba61#ht_651wt_1311
Nice bunch of coins there thucy. Im a big fan of of that design Belgium 5 Franks, but havn't been able to add one affordably to my collection yet. I also enjoy crown-sized world silver coins. Love the Panama Balboas
The eBay seller below has a bunch of 5 Francs French silver coins up for sale - he started of with around 120 5 Francs up for sale, it would have been nice, to have bought one from each mint to make a set. http://www.ebay.com/sch/tonno64/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=25 The Belgian 5 Francs is probably the most affordable coin from that period as it has been minted in the millions. The Balboas are great, as are the other Latin American silver crowns, - ive kinda started with European coins first.
And now, Lets start with the 5 Francs Belgium coin during 1801-1900 only We have two Kings on the obverse Leopold & Leopold II ( my coins are all Leopold II - recently bought Leopold coin on eBay and am eagerly awaiting its arrival ) Concentrating on Leopold II issues, of which there are two varieties, one with the Large Head ( very rare and priced at around $300 when in F grade ! ), and the other with Small Head Small head [imgz=http://forums.silverstackers.com/uploads/531_belgium_5_francs_1873.jpg][/imgz] http://www.coinquest.com/cgi-bin/cq/coins?main_coin=1912&main_ct_id=110 KM# 24 5 FRANCS (5 Frank) 25.0000 g., 0.9000 Silver .7234 oz. His mother, Queen Maria Christina, was appointed regent during his minority. In 1902, on attaining his 16th year, the King assumed control of the state. Alfonso was born in Madrid, posthumous son of Alfonso XII of Spain, and was proclaimed King at his birth. The French newspaper Le Figaro described the young king as "the happiest and best-loved of all the rulers of the earth". Source : wikipedia
