(i was given this whilst brother received a perth mint/royal australian mint 10g olympic gold coin) anyone know what this is? its from 1918, but it doesnt say how much it is. how much would this be worth now?
thats a perth mint sovereign in crap condition, probably worth spot me thinks http://www.silverstackers.com/calculators/index.php?page=8 PS your flicker account has personal photos you may not wish us to veiw
http://www.silverstackers.com/calculators/index.php?page=8 nowaydude, see the calculator link at the top of the page for an indication. Rennick's quote approx the same. thanks hiho - you beat me
wow thanks for the quick reply. i think the reason it looks so crap is because its in plastic with dust/scratches over it - i didnt bother taking it out just to take the photo. then again, on the horse side there are dents etc.
The condition will not be as bad in real life me thinks. Photos and lights will reflect and make a coin look a lot worst at times. Especially under magnification. However the reverse (Dragon) has a lot of wear on the high points as well and other key indicators. It is not a rare date so no real premium. I would think you would get spot + a few percent maybe 15% ? Either way still a nice gift. As a side note great shots, the 5DMKII and 50MM would be a killer combo, I love my 50MM just waiting on the 5DMKIII
it was a gift i got years ago. back then i was like errr, an old coin, thanks lol little did i know there is actual gold in it i use the sigma 50, its a killer lens, one of my favs
It's a 1918-P Sovereign in around EF condition. You can read about the series here: http://www.bluesheet.com.au/Australia/Gold/Full Sovereign/George_V/Large_Head/ As you can see it's not a particularly scarce date but it does have about $400 of gold in it (0.2354 oz).
