I bought a job lot from an auction recently and 2 of these were in the box:

They are replica 1kg coloured roosters but are the size of a 5 cent piece. Packaged in a capsule in a proper case inside a proper Perth Mint box. All very professionally presented.

Does anyone know anything about them? Why the were produced and who were they aimed at? Any information would be appreciated.

WOW! How strange.. very high quality.

Guess there is no confusing a kilo with such a small coin..

I know the PM did offical replica 1kg Gold Nuggets.. Also platinum.. but they were more like the size a kilo should be.. not like this.

Does that say REPLICA? Hard to read the lettering.

Fire off a question to wholesale.

Well - got the response from Perth Mint.

"These coins were produced for a Chinese customer 2004 for the Chinese market. Our guess they were used as a free gift by this customer. There was a miniature monkey replica medallion too but without any wording.

    It's a 2g bullion coloured silver medallion."

Not many around apparently. So there you have it - mystery solved.

Now list it on ebay with the words in the title "RARE" or "SUPER RARE". Even my old hankie is a one of a kind :p
