Can we Huh? You know, a slot where shiney can share his latest knitting patterns and SBL remedy's and others can post camping trips , fishing catches, trips and tips, local events, upcoming concerts etc etc etc?
Go to "Prospecting and Detecting" Dept. Start thread called "Other things to do while prospecting". Start another thread "Cooking while prospecting". And so on.....

No edited to add Create a Camping/Fishing/Lifestyle subforum and absorb Prospecting and Detecting into that. Just think of the benefits, Shiney could post crocheting and knitting patterns along with discussing the latest poise releases while the rest of us could do detecting, camping, trip reports, fishing, boating, concerts, muzic, Photo's, Butch could have his own little wooden furniture report. Holiday deals, flights, accommodation, school holiday's. It would be an ideal all round subforum for 'stuff" that doesn't fit the ideal of PM discussion but covers subjects which still interests the varied personality's and aspects of all stackers no matter the age group or personal interest but lumps it all in the one category. It could also benefit the site by providing a further avenue for subject related advertising, (insert deity here) knows that every cent counts when taking a family on holidays and a targeted discount available to members if unobtrusive would help both sides of the camp, ie mention x and get a six percent discount etc which I can get from my local camping store. I just think it makes sense to group all the varied interest's under the one umbrella.

If you guys are jumping on the lifestyle idea - I'd be interested to see if any other stackers here are musicians producing stuff... I occasionally get PM's about my band's music, but don't hear of many stackers making their own. Even if your a bedroom warrior - I'd love to hear from other stackers who play something!
See GP I add to that RD by not only people producing but just people interested in music, ie concerts coming up by favourite artist's, music festivals and the like, online composition between members or others, (my cousin inlaw has a few classical numbers done via this medium from Sweden) or just jams in stackers local areas. It would only add another aspect to the site where like minds could communicate outside of the purity of precious metals but I don't think would carry the previous burdens associated with the free for all of the open general discussion as like minds would seek each other out. Outliers would be easily eliminated.
I like this idea. Fishing and wooden furniture ect. Sounds great. Even Shiney's crocheting and knitting.
I attend a number of regular Brisbane jam nights here. Coming from the UK which has such a non-creative mindset towards social/improvised music music - 'come round to mine for a jam, here's a list of songs we usually play' - its so refreshing to be in a place where creativity is not just encouraged, its practically the law. If anyone is interested in jam nights, or a social night with live music, let me know. Down at our studio we usually have a heap of local muso's playing at least once a week in various guises. Ability is not an issue - we have professional session muso's playing alongside bedroom warrirors. Here's a little ditty of ours from about 9 months ago - pretty much completely improvised... http://soundcloud.com/immigrantmusic/in-search-of Oh shit, I'm off on my enthusiastic horse again... its 1am...
Reminds me of a really slowed down version of the Shaft theme song with that warbling bass guitar
A public general discussion area will not be reinstated - it was almost the cause of the end of Silver Stackers on a couple of occasions. It's the Internet, people don't play nicely when they think they are anonymous. There is a General Discussion and a Preparedness/Sustainable Living forum for paid members - people are being much more civilised when paying for the privilege. I don't push it too hard because there's more to being a premium member than just getting some off-topic forums.
Now I could help out there. I'm not to good on the fishing or crocheting and knitting but I do have some interesting experiences with wooden furniture !!
