Fellow stackers, Silver is very commonly traded here, but not so much for gold. Obviously the price difference makes silver a far more attractive investment over gold. We at Pinkman White tend to stick to silver for that reason, but always interested in venturing to the legendary yellow metal. For those who do trade in gold, I have a few questions: What size is commonly traded - 1oz, 1/2oz, 1 gram, etc? What is a commonly traded amount - 1 to 2 items, 10+ items, etc? Is there a particular print/mint/brand that is more attractive than others, and what makes it more attractive? I might have a few more questions depending on what response we get from this post. Thanks everyone. - Pinkman White
u said yrself:the price difference makes silver a far more attractive investment over gold-therefore I believe members like to pick up fractional gold coins rather than big ones...with the bigger ones the price gotta be right and there should be a great amount of demand for that coin 10+ items rarely..1or 2 here and there again: demand and valet
I do like fractionals but if you have the cheapest gold I dont care what denomination or print. I'm no low-baller but I do like to hunt a bargain when the cash and The Missus allows it.
As a dealer/sponsor with 20 SS trades under their belt, shouldn't you have this market research already? And who uses the term "print" for precious metals?
There are also fractional certicards coming in grams like the Perth Mint or PAMP ones : 1g, 2.5g, 5g, 10g, 20g, 50g and up to 100g
1oz gold is most popular by far at the retail level. Market can be very brand sensitive though - I've had cheap brands of gold in stock that people won't buy at $10/oz cheaper than Perth Mint because of market acceptance concerns. Margins are already cutthroat at that price point.
Silver Stackers is only one platform for which people discuss / trade in bullion products. I have noticed that the trading behavior on this site is different from the trading behavior on other sites / forums we engage in. Therefore the best way to learn what people trade in on this particular platform is by asking. And since our focus of late has been with silver NOT gold, we have started to inquire about what gold amounts and sizes is commonly traded here. I thank those who have actually provided useful information for our market research on gold trading in this forum. Cheers guys!
@goldpelican Do you care to elaborate... as I am always quite happy to pick-up gold at a discount... Just a quick edit... I really like low-premium fractionals as they are easy to liquidate... Wish someone could supply reasonably priced Gold American Eagles in 1oz and fractional... they are my preferred coin. Thanks,
The trouble with American Eagle Gold range is their purity level is below the 99.5% minimum requirement - meaning there will be a GST component on them. Probably why it is difficult to find them reasonable prices, as each dealer needs to pay a GST component. But I do like the coin - the eagles on the back look better than the eagles on the silver coins.
The 1/10th oz does fall into an affordable range of around $150 per coin making it a lot easier to get a bulk discount, and the kangaroo print is a very classic look. There's a few mentions of Perth Mint gold here - most likely they are a trust worthy name and they hold the 99.5% purity over the American Eagle gold. Have to look into the supply of these products...
This is the type of professional reply that I would expect from a site sponsor.........well done and well answered. PS: Agree with some of the early post - Perth Mint fractionals
I think anything from Perth Mint is good, as is anything from any of the major mints like Canadian Mint. I prefer 1oz for the lower premium, but fractionals trading in the order of a few hundred dollars seem to be the most popular here for affordability.
I can see the trend towards Perth Mint fractionals. What about people's take on the PAMP fractional bars like 1g, 5g, 10g, etc? Or does their generally high premium not make it a worthwhile investment over the Perth Mint?
From what I've seen PAMP bars are as popular as PM bars even though they carry a slightly higher premium, also the smallest PM bar is 5g while you can find 1g and 2.5g PAMP bars.
