After a little guidance on which is the best purchase. I have approx 6000 to spend on something nice. Considering either A) the 150g 2016 gold proof panda (mintage 5k) or B) Shenyang Mint 2015 Gold Panda sheep 50g China coin Medal (mintage 19) http://www.luckpawnshop.com/images/s/201512/14503049160.jpg http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTYwMFgxNTI5/z/92wAAOSwYaFWcCYk/$_1.JPG
I expect the 150proof to be at least 8K5 Euro. Your estimated budget is not enough. The medal I don't know and can't tell something about it. It looks nice though.
If I were choosing I'd definitely choose the medal for these reasons. 1) Mintage of only 19! 2) Excellent design 3) I don't need any other reasons than the first two .
I know which shop u mean. The prices are not fixed by china mint yet according to my informations. I think I will go for two proof 50s as soon ordering is open/the premium is right according to my informants. The 150gr is nice very nice though and something very special.
For 7 K there is a mintage 1000 panda with 5oz available to my knowledge at the moment ^^ Maybe consider that.
No problem, some of the stuff there is well above our limits but I got some minor pandas there and everything 100% to my satisfaction.
Sorry but the answer is more involved. It depends on how much experience you have in collection and what you already have. It also depends on if you ever plan to sell the item. It may take several years for the numismatic premium to become tolerable for a new buyer to take it off your hands. If buying any of these two items it should be because you like it a LOT and will enjoy looking at it for a long time to come. They are both collector items. However, there is a chance that one or both may appreciate in price in the long term but that is not guaranteed. Good luck and best of wishes.
getting some proofs will become very hard in 2016. international distribution numbers of these coin is very low to nothing for the moment. maybe in the comming month. i got a few refuses from my channels for the 50gr recently. 47% premium would be to good to be true. did not even see a 50/100gr Au on ebay

you need to be aware that a rare medal is not easy to sell again. if you like it because of the design and you do not care about how much it will be worth in times you may not like it anymore do not worry to buy it. the distribution channels of these items are for me a bit too intransparent and price development is harder to track. if you like to buy because of future wealth protection better go on with a that kind of stock you already own. a 50gr 2016 proof is more a shorttime speculation as the 1gr panda was in times you were able to buy close to pog
Thanks for sharing info on your stack; it is eclectic and establishes you to be more of a collector although many of items in your collection could be sold easily if/when you want. (I may be wrong). However, the expenditure you are contemplating is going to be one of your most expensive purchases to date! The 2015 Panda Lunar Goat 50g Gold medal is an ultralow mintage item. If you go through various coin forums you will get various opinions as to the desirability/risks of low and ultralow mintage coins and medals. If you are looking at this particular item as a collector it means that if you own it you are going to be one of 19 or fewer people in the world who will ever own this item. In that case it will be more like a "priceless art" item (or an expensive piece of junk--Sorry but I owe you the duty of giving both sides of the argument). If you decide to go with it you should also give consideration to buying the 2oz silver medal as well as the 2oz antique silver medal to have a complete three medal set for 2015. The 2016 150g proof Gold Panda coin has a larger collector base. To some proponents this means there will be more chances of finding a buyer if you decide to sell in future, and you will belong to a larger member-base club! This 150g panda coin is also part of a 34 year old Chinese Government sponsored international coin and medal series. So it's lineage and longevity is established. At the end of the day you have to decide between the two options or none at all. There are people who have bought the 2015 Panda Lunar Goat 50g Gold medal. I believe there are people who are already buying the 2016 150g proof Gold Panda coin. There are also people who have not bought any one of the items under discussion. It boils down to personal choice; I believe that is what has determined what you have bought up to date. I hope this information is helpful to you. ninteno also makes very useful points.
Thanks for all the advice and opinions. I have put an offer in for a 150g 2016 proof panda on ebay. The company lists it on their shop for 8500 euro but its all in German so I have but a matching bid in on their ebay store. Fingers crossed its accepted
Well let's hope it is accepted than you can post pic for the rest of us to look at it as I will probably not get the chance to own one.
