In my dreams, I'm working on a non-destructive technology which removes all traces of milk spotting.

The important question is: were those milk spots visible before it went in for grading? From what I understand, milk spots can 'grow' larger. Is it possible that NGC graded that coin with visible milk spots a 70? In other words, maybe NGC doesn't view milk spots as defects if the spots are very small.

    Savage!

Can someone link me to a good explanation of the spots? Is it like a pre-tarnish if that makes sense?

SilverPete, that is still a delicious looking coin, even with the tiny spots.

Agree Fat Penguin....the Royal Mint's best modern coin design that I've seen.

It certainly is. I got it at the original issue price back when the AUD was far stronger so while it is painful to see it spotting, at least I have one and didn't pay too much for it.

I also have a few of the 1oz proofs but they are nowhere near as nice as the 5oz with its more pronounced relief.
