If you were bringing in the above how would you
    1. Calculate the $1000 metal. weight no of oz x spot pricer or sale price?
    2. What would you label it as?

    Face value.

There's not much point in having currency if nobody pays attention to the bit that says how much it's worth.

there should not be any problem even if you bring more than 10k

99.99% pure bullions (silver and gold) are input taxed(for private use) or gst exempt(for dealers with abn and business registration).

You might have to declare to customs, but there is no grounds to for confiscation.

I have in the past carried currency in excess of 10k.

I have not carried gold above that amount, but it should not be a problem because gold and silver are tax free imports anyway. tax of anything on 0 is 0.

Agreed over $1000 declaration but don't you get charged $68 customs handling fee. No fees under $1000

I think you only have to declare once over the 10k mark on the customs form. So technically 9999 Silver Dollars should be fine.
