Im going to be in south america in a couple of months time and amoungst other places will be visiting the fabled silver Mountain at potosi in Bolivia but does anyone know if you can actually buy any there?
10,000 miners fueled by coca leaves and booze who like dynamite as a gift.....I think you will be fine. "around 10,000 people work in the mines. A tour starts with a visit to the miners' market to buy gifts for the miners like coca leaves, drinks, cigarettes or dynamite." http://wikitravel.org/en/Potosà .
The locals sell it in the markets for the tourists. It's all they really have to make a decent sort of income. You can get about 20 sticks of dynamite instead of an ounce Check that they're still doing tours as I know it's been overmined and slowly collapsing.
On the 4th day of mining a tourist bought for me 4 sticks of dynamite, 3 wanton hussies 2 bottles of tequila and a big bag of fresh coca leaves.
