"Electricity From Fuel Cells Sparking Demand for Platinum: Energy" http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-...l?hootPostID=d70e57eacb3e9aff86f07a4fd70841e6 Or it could be just another run-up story like 'Silver prices to spike with increasing use in solar panels' Platinum is so expensive that there'll be a real financial incentive (a catalyst*) to seek cheaper alternatives. *: Shout out to the chemistry nerds; pun fully intended
Thanks for sharing. Yes, there are alternatives being developed. There is a general trend of replacing critical materials with abundant materials to make them cheap. Some I have heard preform better than platinum as a catalyst. Time will tell though. I have a webpage on the supply and demand of platinum if you are interested (up until 2013). http://www.ptcalc.com/platinum-supply-and-demand.php
