My eyes are on Novacoin and PPcoin as the ones to get in on earlier.

Need to look into it a bit better at home as some things I can't get to at work.

Namecoin & Novacoin can be traded on BTC-e
PPCoin has its own exchange to use so it's not as mainstream

Not sure on what the mining rates are for these new coins, but places like Omnicoins already sell Namecoins.

A business venture into Australian company selling Novacoin might be the right way around this?

If you don't mind a 10% commission and just want coins, Spendbitcoins Australia is the easiest way to buy that I have found.

Can buy up to $5000 worth at a time, and just need to do a cash deposit at any NAB, CBA, etc.

I used to hate the 10% commission you paid, but then it started rising 10% every few days so it didn't bother me as much anymore.

I had a guy at work come up to me and ask where you can buy bitcoins.

    I told him Mt.Gox.

He said he wanted to buy them privately.

Anyone want to sell any coins? his happy to deposit cash to finalise the deal.

I'm personally not buying into this hype, but he has a feeling it will goto 1k by the end of the year if it gets adopted.

If he can't find a buyer privately, there's a few websites that offer a service:

    BitInnovate
    BitPiggy
    BitcoinsRUs
    Omnicoins

Most will give you a bank account to go cash deposit into and will send the coins the same day.

spendbitcoins.com is another one I have used them before but they are a little expensive and you have to go into the branch to deposit the cash.

They have accounts with NAB, Westpac, Commbank and one other I think.

I just downloaded and installed 'Litecoin v0.6.3c for Mac OS X'

I have opened it up and had a look at the interface. Seem ok. It is currently synchronizing with the network (seem like this will take some time - I'm on ADSL 2).

Is this normal? It also looks like you can mine directly from the litecoin wallet interface. I just wanted to play around and see what it was like. Am I on the right track?

    Any responses appreciated

    Thanks Noppy

Is that GUIminer for Windows? I am running this on a Mac at the moment. Also, I'm pretty sure that the CPU on this computer would outperform the graphics card. I'm just going through the motions to familiarise myself with the process.

Is the sychronisation time normal? Also, there is a address in the wallet. If/when I set this up on a proper PC rig can I port this over.?

I hate feeling like I don't know what I'm doing.

    Cheers all

Bitinnovate and omnicoins are both out of coins!
BitcoinsRus' website doesn't load and bitpiggy doesn't let new users buy BTC!

    There is demand out there!
RM, I reckon there is an opportunity to offer LTC selling services ! That's if you can get your hands on some :)

Let's not have a Mac vs PC thread or discussion - they're not worth the effort.

Computers are a tool to be used and being loyal to one brand or type over another is just limiting your options. I have and do use both regularly depending on what I'm doing and where I am.

On the actual topic at hand, I think the sychronisation is actually downloading the block transaction history so I assume this will take a fairly long time and once completed won't need to be done again.

    Cheers

These corrections, if that's what this is, seem to be relatively shallow and generally short-lived until btc goes on it's next parabolic rise. I wonder if this is the pattern going forward. At least in the short-term.

One thing is obvious, that the market isn't that liquid. It isn't as easy to get hold of bitcoins as other financial products. Maybe that is restricting the downside as any time any profit-taking occurs there are still so many buyers waiting out there for the opportunity to get in, that the correction is not that serious and short-lived.

It also seems like the other crypto-currencies are piggy-backing btc.

    Just some thoughts...

Thanks - 6GB is usefull to know. Best do this at home then :)

I think I'll throw together some old components from PCs lying around and add in some new video cards. Does anyone know if an older motherboard, processor and RAM will affect the Hash rate if the graphics cards are new?

    Cheers

This has been very interesting. Seeing the change in thoughts and processes.

I am really keen to get some LTC and would be happy to sell some Silver at a price that should get some interest.

I have 8 NZ Ferns you can have them for 55 LTC's I just want to check the process etc... I will post Free as well to sweeten the deal.

Anyone interested let me know or just a couple for $hits and giggles :)
