The world continues to not make sense, though it is pretty clear that the USA is harvesting whatever dollars it can, wherever it can.

Bank stocks may rise because the fines (and thus bottom line profit impact) were smaller than the market expected as a consensus?

I'm guessing the fines were nothing compared to the profits they made. Just another form of "business cost".

Read a bbc article on this. They likely made a few trillion from this over the seven years it was going on. I'd happily pay a billion dollar fine for a trillion dollars.

The "fines" to the banks are like getting a parking ticket ..... send the scumbags to jail ....

Strip the scumbags of their assets and then send them to jail .... but when the public is ignorant, preserving faith in the system takes precedence instead .... the public may as well work for toilet paper ....
