Got in the mail yesterday Royal Australian Mint catalogue #87. There is another ballot for a gold coin coming up (same format as the Kangaroo at Sunset ballot). This one is for Rams Head Dollar 2011 C mintmark $10 gold proof. 1/10 oz Mintage 2500 Price $265 + $10 postage International price AUD241 + $30.00 postage Limit of one coin per customer number. Ballots must be in by 31st March, ballot drawn Monday 4th April. I have already licked my stamp and sealed the envelope.....fingers crossed.
So if you get allocated one of these coins, what could you resell it at? the price of the coin on the secondary markets should be higher, i presume.
Nope, snail mail only, and only using the form they provide in snail mail to you. Even if they have half the numismatic increase as the Roos at Sunset, you'll double your money PS. I posted this in the Gold Coin forum a couple of days ago.
Interesting though it also says on the site "limited to active members" and the definition is those who have purchased from the mint. Presumbably they will vet each entry against ones history to see if one has purchased in whatever time period they are looking at. This might cut down if one is to believe the statements said on a popular numismatic board when the ballot for the gold kanga appeared ..."I have entered my mum" "the cat and the dog have been entered", "my next door neighbour has entered" blah blah. Mind you a high price for small bit of gold (of a sheeps head) and not nearly imho as much resale as a gold kanga which are sought worldwide. ok it does have some oz appeal but worldwide I doubt it.
you need to of been on the mailing list since feb14th, and purchased something within last 12 months my mate works there, has a membership, but since he hasn't bought anything isn't allowed a ballet form. these coins will go up in value, before the ballet system, all the workers would buy up the coins for sale and sell on ebay for profit..lol
This also has a mintage 2.5 times the size of the Roo at sunset (1000 Roo vs 2500 Ram). This is also half the weight of a Roo at sunset (1/10toz Ram v 1/5toz Roo) With more than twice the mintage, it's unexpected to have the same numismatic percentage increase as the Roo.
Anyone heard anything about the ballot ? I didn't get in on the ballot, but have found a good price for this coin. Might buy 2 if possible.
I never purchased anything directly from the RAM. Most RAM products were purchased from Downies or from local coin shops.
I got my *cough* five today. Very nice coins and the wood case is outstanding. These would be fantastic in a 1oz gold coin as well.
We bought half the dealers stock after I called them to confirm they had no purchase limits. My wife wanted to buy all their stock. So, you pay more than spot for them, but dang, they are a lovely coin and a nice way to add 1/2 ounce to my little stack.
