Being an Old Codger and wife with the kids (thankfully) off our hands, $200 will buy enough food for both of us for about 3 weeks at a guess. We have a light breakfast, a main meal, and a snack for the evening meal. We go to ALDI and then Coles to top up what ALDI do not have, and that is it. Then there are the preps.............. OC

Don't they get free education aswell ?. Saw one guy in the US rob a bank for $1 then give it back to the casher to get jail time to fix major health needs, the judge was going to let him off with a small sentence, so he was planning his next hist.
ow I really am getting ripped for groceries out here. I spend on average about $80/wk for one on food and I buy generic brand for most things, get alot of veg, go for the cheaper meat, and hardly buy junk food. I get the impression we pay alot more for fruit and veg than the cities, and it is of much poorer quality.
I was shocked when my friend that lives in Villawood took me shopping at her local greengrocer. I got a groaning trolley full of fruit and veg for $65.00, to have bought the same quantity where I live (Enmore) would have cost more than double that. It's actually worth the travel time for me to drive out there once a week to get produce, nuts, olive oil, cheeses...
Buying for 2 people isn't much more expensive than buying for 1. You tend to end up throwing a lot of food out as a single person!
Yep, We end up with a freezer full of small containers with left-overs. I have a firm policy, when they turn green we throw them out. OC
Today Tonight has a story tonight asking Why are we paying more than the UK and US for food? Probably because idiots insist on thinking very short term and support a duopoly players to save a few dollars now only to pay far far more later when the independents cease trading. Save 4 cents a litre on your fuel? Don't make me laugh
Apologies for giving people a heads up about a "story" on Today Tonight
That's what I thought, can't be right ? I don't know any family that survives on $200 per week. Think $350-400 would be closer to the mark.
If the UN's Agenda 21 gets their way then it will be more like 1 billion, I dont think there will ever be 9 billion, the world just cant provide food for that many people. alot of developed countries have decreasing populations becuase there is a direct correlation between energy consumption and population growth. Im just very pessemistic about the future of mankind as a whole
