I'm not sure if anyone can shed some light on this. As I was born in 1972, I'm looking for silver coins released in that year. I recently discovered Austrian 50 Schilling coins celebrating the 350th anniversary of the University of Salzburg from 1622 to 1972. On the reverse are 2 roman numerals. One is MDCXXII (1622). The other one is MCMLXII (1962) I paid about 30% over spot for them, which still has them sitting in the bullion arena. Are they considered mules? Surely I'm not the first person in the world to notice the fault. I hope the image is clear enough. Source: Edit: Can't spell.
The roman dates on the Great Seal refer to the establishment of the University. The Uni was established in 1622 and operated until 1810 when Bavaria annexed Salzburg. The uni was re-established in 1962. The 1622-1972 is the 350th anniversary. Hence the confusing dates. http://www.uni-salzburg.at/portal/page?_pageid=117,58990&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL
