Hi, I'm sure this has already been discussed here however I can't find much from the search What is considered to be a bargain when buying pre decimal coins, does it need to be below spot ? Also does this apply to all the coins, florins, shillings, 6 and 3 pences ? or are the smaller coins less desirable ? Does the same logic apply to both pre 1946 and post coins ? Cheers
Their popularity goes up and down - I've sold florins for 5-8% over spot, other times I couldn't shift shillings until they were priced 10% under spot. Basically they should be cheaper than the cheapest 999 you can find going.
50% usually cheaper than 92.5 % eg 1 pre florins or 2 post florins; most ppl would take 1 pre even though slightly less silver
With pre decimal there is a MASSIVE upside potential.. So an unsearched lot could yield you many multiples in returns instantly.. It's the best buy you can make.. This is mainly pre 45 stuff purchased from a one time owner that has not skimmed he quality out and sold Most here seem to assume only junky pre decimal silver.. In which case I'd agree spot is good Any older pre decimal in semi decent grade usually is quite in demand.. Any George v stuff in high grade and you'll be laughing.. Such a varied area of silver its difficult to summise ... It's is why you either spend time and study numismatics and grades and know key dates or you don't.. If your not interested in numismatics I wouldn't bother cause you'll just think its not pretty and horribly toned and old looking --- stick with bullion
