I'm interested to see what peoples views are regarding unemployment figures for 2015? They way things are going I'm guessing 2015 will push true unemployment into the 15% range and increasing more in 2016. I think constriction is going to be the BIG job cut area for next year, those numbers are going to make the automotive sector look small. I'm looking forwards to the restructuring of the near future, i think this will be good for most in the long run. Or maybe not, who knows :|
I expect it to continue rising but not to as high as 15% in 2015. I also expect underemployment to rise, participation rates to fall and the number of working hours to decrease.
Independent studies are saying its 8% now, government says 6% so split it and call it 7% now. (and that's not including all the jobs cuts that's just been announced over the past month) So you think in almost 2 years unemployment will stay flat or only increase by about 1%. Wish i had your optimistic outlook.
Well, what unemployment figure are you referring to? The official govt figure is a load of BS. The real figure is twice that as per Roy Morgan research. My prediction is BS govt figure 8% Real figure 15% Underemployment at 20% maybe even higher.
Unemployment will continue to rise as long as it is in direct opposition with technology and automation.
I should have been more clear, i was after real unemployment and not government figures. But having said that its good to hear both sides. So i think 9% government figures and 15%+ real figures by the end of 2015. 2016 i think 11% government figures and 20% real figures..
I'm fairly sure you get paid more from centrelink if you go to uni or tafe, so I doubt government figures will change much.
Yep, I think a lot of people in the coming years will be going back to study just so they can get an income from centrelink. You can put uni fees on HECS and as long as you earn something like less the $50,000 per year you never have to pay it back. I'm guessing they might cut this back though, but on the other hand the government will love to not include them as being unemployed.
Unemployment in Australia will be a big problem from 2014. People over 65 told to work on to 67 and maybe to 70years of age. Now that means less jobs for 18/25 years trying to enter the workforce. Maybe they will insist that the school leaving age be raised to 25 years? That might solve the unemployment numbers. Regards Errol 43
This is happening over the next decade via a gradual increase rather than all/most in the next 16 months.

So what do monkeys like me do Who left school at 16 & haven't studied anything except for what I learn on the spot ?
You pay higher taxes so career academics can be issued government grants to conduct studies on the long term health effects of pesticides on your filipino imported bananas
