Over the month of March, M3 grew by 0.6 per cent and broad money grew by 0.6 per cent. Over the year to March, broad money grew by 6.0 per cent.
It would be interesting to see what the graphs look like with a log scale on the vertical axis, mainly to compare pre and post 1971 and 1982/1982.
I would question why it is the 4th or 5th biggest traded currency. Mining, food exports and our financial institutions that borrow from overseas all add up but our GDP is at the smaller end of the G20 nations. I wouldn't have thought we had a big enough monitory base to support such volumes of trade.
Currency wars? The AUD has dropped in value significantly through April and May. They grandstand about the lowering of interest rates, while keeping absolutely quiet about doubling the rate they are inflating the currency supply. It will be interesting to see the report for May. If I recall correctly, money printing peaked at around 16% YOY in 2008/09. So at 12% annualised, there is still a lot more money they can print before exceeding recent historical highs.
Over the month of May, M3 grew by 0.8 per cent and broad money grew by 0.4 per cent. Over the year to May, broad money grew by 6.0 per cent.
Over the month of June, M3 grew by 0.4 per cent and broad money grew by 0.4 per cent. Over the year to June, broad money grew by 5.4 per cent.
The last time growth in broad money was at ~5% YOY was in 2010-2009 and before that, 2001 Interesting to see if the trend continues downward.
Over the month of July, M3 grew by 0.5 per cent and broad money grew by 0.5 per cent. Over the year to July, broad money grew by 5.5 per cent.
Over the month of September, M3 increased by 0.6 per cent and broad money increased by 0.6 per cent. Over the year to September, broad money grew by 5.2 per cent.
Over the month of October, M3 increased by 0.6 per cent and broad money increased by 0.6 per cent. Over the year to October, M3 grew by 6.3% broad money grew by 5.6 per cent. (I note the figures for September were actually revised to M3 - 0.7, Broad Money - 0.7) reference: RBA Publication (.xls)
