Austerity You really have only two options, be it a state or an individual. You tighten the belt, or you declare bankrupt and start again. People don't like it when the teat of the state is taken away I guess. I wonder what would happen if the police walked away and let the protesters to thier own devices?

Seriously we have not seen austerity yet. What we have seen is some very clever politicians who do tiny cuts to overly generous entitlements. eg Greece changing the retirement age for govt workers from 55 to 58. Massive protests. Greece and Spain do the tiny cuts in spending and people start burning stuff. Its all a ploy. Real austerity would be cut govt spending by 40 to 60% and half of that goes to retire debt , half as tax cuts. Then have the riots. Tozak , YOU have bee fooled by the pollies. B.
