Does anyone have or can point me in the right direction to find a conversion rate / chart of when we went to decimal in 66 IE: what was a sixpence ECT worth in decimal ? Tried google but the single malt is kicking in.
Cheers Kam, know about the pound to dollar, was after something a bit more specific. I understand it was not a one to one conversion with all denominations, but trying to get my head around the approximate conversions of all of the pre decimal coins to decimal value.
Uh got it now, a penny was 1 cent but when it got to 5 cents you needed 6 pennies to make 5 cents. Guess you lost out in 66 in you were stacking pennies !
Why would anyone bring in larger denominations? Surely you would want it all in pennies? You'd make 15% on every six pence you had brokenn into 6 pennies.
FNQ, Try searching 'Decimal Currency 14 February 1966 TV Advertisements' on YouTube. You'll find a heap of advertisements that were shown to help us convert to decimal currency over the 2 year transition period. For those of us old enough to remember them, they really bring back memories. For the youngsters amongst us, they make for fun watching. Regards Acorn
