Is it just me or is SS turning into a forum for people not wanting to pay feebay premiums and auctioning everything?? Hey, I don't mind chasing a good buy but seriously, advertise an item at a fair price and let the buyers decide and negotiate direct. IMO I think it's getting a little out of hand.
    Your thoughts?

    $300 I win :D

On a serious note, why are auctions bad? I think they're alright, the only thing that bothers me is when people make 5 different auction threads for coins which won't even get $20, just put it all as one lot I reckon

I did it recently with some PM bars that are sought after - naturally I was trying to maximise the return on my outlay.

When we get to the stage where people start auctioning common items like a PAMP 1kg bar instead of just putting a price on it, I'll look more closely at the issue.

But for items with a collectible aspect that are thinly traded, it's a perfectly legitimate form of price discovery.

Umm, too late pelican, I recall a pamp bar being auctioned not so long ago, and I'm not sure exactly sure which PM bars are "sought after" (except possibly pre 90 bars) anything above spot.
Just an observation, not a dig. Hey could be a new auction website in the making here!

+1 at looking into Auction is only for non current production item (ie Pamp 1kg or current style of bars, or anything with 2013 on it?

That's if SS actually read the rules :D

Ive put items on here with a set price and got no bites. Auctions always sell.

The prices I get here are around the same as I get with ebay minus fees. In general though the customers here are of a higher quality IMO, which is one reason I choose to list and sell here. Members here can bid on my goods in the confidence that I am fair dinkum and easy to track down should any problem arise. Members buying on ebay may not be so confident in who they are dealing with....buyers and sellers.

Auctions for me achieve a fair free-market price for goods that are both valuable and collectible. Also on a personal note, I dont exactly flood the forum with auctions.

I dont believe auction threads need to be bumped twice a day until the final day and if its getting regular bids no bumping is required at all. No need either to have posts thanking every bid inserted by the seller ....thats what the "thank you" buttons for.

IMO auctions dont create issues, but auctioneers can.

tbh i use the auction to shift stuff.

I had 12 rounds/coins to sell as i needed the cash.

I could fee bay each individually. I could set each with a price and negatiate and mail out 12 individually or i could auction the lot and be done in a week for about 15 mins work.

however if i want to sell generic bars set a price and were done. if they dont sell drop the price. easy.
