Been stacking since this year - thought about stacking in 2009 - but wanted to do my own home work and look in gold and silver more. Three years later and it feels like I missed the second train at the station, considering the bull market started in 2000. I cannot see platinum going higher than it is, and I would prefer the store of gold and silver. Those canadian platinum maples are a thought though. Too bad those perth mint emus now have numismatic value. Good to hear back from people.

Platinum cheaper than gold is an aberration that will correct in my opinion.

I have only one ounce of platinum but am eager to get to at least 10 ozs. I think it did better than gold in the 1978-1980 spike.

I have to confess that I have not done much reading into platinum otherwise than to say in good times the price goes up and in bad times the price goes down. So looks like there are some buyers here. Have to do some more reading. Thanks

I agree, smaller physical market than silver and production is really only out of South Africa (80%+)

Platinum also use to be used as coinage in Russia and surrounding countries - so it also goes up in bad times ;)

Hi TeaPot&ChopSticks - I've been buying a perth mint 1 oz Pt coin from time to time, including recently. I buy the platypus as I like the 30,000 mintage limit and the fact that it was sold out in 2011. http://www.goldstackers.com.au/store/platinum-coins.html

Frankly I was looking at the chart again today and after Friday's move I see more chance that it will move a bit lower. Platinum in a 10 week correction now against USD and also a 7 week downtrend against gold.

I also can't believe that this trend won't be reversed - platinum's a lot harder to get from the earth than gold and much of it is consumed industrially. Its disadvantage is the non-role that it will play in the future world currency crisis - just imo. Great store of value though and who knows what supply demand issues will arise in the future to possibly elevate it again?

    I have a 1oz coin, I probably need more than 1 for a stack.

I only bought it because it was cheaper than gold, once platinum goes up I will have to decide whether it has more numi value than spot value.

Won't be adding many more though.

I am a great Canadian Maple fan - any one know a Australian Dealer that sells these? The Platinum One Ounce coin.

All I have is 1/4 oz eagle that I bought for about $350 last year.I looked at some 1 oz eagles but the premium is so high I couldnt do it.While the price per oz is about $1500-$1600,all of the sites and e bay want somewhere around $2200 per coin.So if I can buy a gold eagle at $99 over spot its no contest.JMHO
