I recently offloaded all my old 5oz PM bars for a fantastic price (in excess of 6 x spot ), does anyone think 50ozers will attract any premium in the future? Are they rare? You don't see them for sale often. Does anyone have an idea of how many are around and when PM stopped pouring them?

They are a fantastic bar, just the right size to drop the neighbours cat in one clean blow (kidding).....

not collectable enuff, bit heavy and ugly.

the monkey pushed the bar down and hit the kitty's front feet... ouch.
that's lucky, the bar is still in one piece, kitty has one toe left

Hmm. They're really nice and all but not easy to let go at the right price unless another collector comes along.

That being said, you hardly see any 50oz PM bars around so if you can get it at a good price why not?

they COULD be collectible. In-fact any thing can. :) The trick is to know what others want. IMO, trying to sell a 50 ounce bar maybe harder than say a 10 ounce at the smaller level, and 100 ounce at the larger level. I personally like sticking with the 10, 5, and 1 ounces since I feel they are easier to sell with no paper trail. The large bars I would hold would be the investment grade of 1,000 oz ounces.

But if you got a 50 oz bar...it's better than nothing!!! :)

Any pictures of it? Who minted it?

Structuring, also known as smurfing in banking industry jargon, is the practice of executing financial transactions (such as the making of bank deposits) in a specific pattern calculated to avoid the creation of certain records and reports required by law, such as the United States's Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Internal Revenue Code section 6050I (relating to the requirement to file Form 8300).[1]

Legal restrictions on structuring should not be confused with capital controls, which are statutory or regulatory limits on the money that one can take out of a nation, though they can have some of the same economic effects in some economies, as structuring controls effectively limit the flow of capital by magnitude and duration, and can apply equally to taking money out of a nation as well as putting money into its finance system.

LOL. Not where I was going. But now I understand:

Pessimism is a state of mind in which one anticipates undesirable outcomes or believes that the evil or hardships in life outweigh the good or luxuries. Value judgments may vary dramatically between individuals, even when judgments of fact are undisputed. The most common example of this phenomenon is the "Is the glass half empty or half full?" situation. The degree in which situations like these are evaluated as something good or something bad can be described in terms of one's optimism or pessimism respectively. Throughout history, the pessimistic disposition has had effects on all major areas of thinking.

    :D

What I was trying to say is that most people who buy silver aren't looking to have to write checks, wait for clearing, etc. When you want cold hard cash, most places don't have $3,000 sitting around to just buy back silver from someone who randomly will walk in. So then you gotta wait till your bank clears it, etc. If you really are investing in silver, you won't be buying physical. You're buying paper. But to have for a rainny day, for a cool thing to sell a few of to buy some groceries for the week, etc upon retirement, smaller sized bars are more ideal. Totally IMO...with an MBA, PH.D. behind it. :)

However, I still wanna see pictures! Would be cool to see some different style/minted bars on here. :)

Yet another example of financial and individual repression by the "free world". In Australia it's called "parcelling".

You could hurt someone with those slabs... And you just gave me an idea: You could melt it all down into a slab that no thief could ever even get out of the door with much less run away with it... hmm... Or a giant Valcambi bar! :D
