Hi, I know nothing about coins but a friend gave me this one to research. I asked them what they know about it for certain and they just said "It's Roman". After some google image searching, I've come to the conclusion that it's actually Greek, and may be a BC-era tetradrachm? [imgz=http://forums.silverstackers.com/uploads/11688_greeka.jpg][/imgz] [imgz=http://forums.silverstackers.com/uploads/11688_greekb.jpg][/imgz] [imgz=http://forums.silverstackers.com/uploads/11688_greekc.jpg][/imgz] It looks sort of gold/bronze colour, but doesn't feel heavy like gold. It feels quite light. The closest imagery I found in searching is: http://munzeo.com/coin/mostid-greek-coin-tetradrachm-copy-6097102 and http://www.calgarycoin.com/ancient04.htm (the lower right one) Am I on the right track, you think? Cheers.
Yes it is a tetradrachm. It reads lysimachou vasileus (king) Lysimachus was one of Alexander the Great,s successors. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lysimachus This website may also help. http://www.forumancientcoins.com/board/index.php?topic=86085.0
