    Hi everyone,

just wondering if we have any collectors of Australian notes on here as a mate of mine has a couple of rare ones he is thinking of selling. I may list them in the sales thread if there is enough interest. Hmmmm is that allowed even though it is not PM's???? Just so you know the main note of interest is a 1967 $20 Coombs/Randall Banknote Original UNC Cond. CV $9500

Let me know of any interest :)

I have a few of the old $1 and $2 notes as well as one of the first $10 trial polymer notes with the Aboriginal on it. More as a curiosity and nostalgia than anything else.

I often wonder how deep the market is for the old fiat notes. Can't imagine spending big bucks on a $20 and the like.

IMO at the end of the day it is just a piece of paper isn't it, not my thing but some of these rare notes are worth alot of money. I dont see the value in them myself but what ever blows your hair back :)
Some of the old pound notes can fetch 6 figures if in good condition. No matter what way you look at it though, paper fiat is a part of our history (though it's short) and even when the whole system does collaps, there will always be people who will want to collect it.

What is it that is collectable about the current $50

Do you look for certain prefix/numbers, signatures?

I like the 50s too.. but if I can get the 100s I prefer to stack those. If you have any to spare I will give you 1oz silver for them.

nothing that I know about, I don't look for anything except quantity. I like the way they stack .
hundreds seem like poor value because the stack is so small,
twentys are just dirty, I try not to touch the filthy drug and disease stained things,
and five and tens are pretty much taking the place of small change.

Sort of off topic but has anyone else seen those ww2 japanese australian dollars that they printed ready for when they invaded australia? Apparently their soldiers pockets were filled with them, it was how they paid them i was told.

I have one of the first batches of the 1988 $10 where the hologram rubbed off.... that was a huge embarrassment for the mint!

    Are they worth extra???

I have a few. Pre decimal pound notes, 1 5 10 and a couple of 10 shillings. also 2 consecutive $10 polymer (similar to above). A few of the 'First and Last' pre decimal to decimal issues as well.issues as well. I bought them only out of interest or because I really like the art work.
