I have posted this before but it could do with a refresher!... THE Royal Mint stands accused of ripping off the public through sales of coins as collectables. Even the latest Olympic issue is affected, it is claimed. The problem has become so outrageous, says the UK's leading dealer in the secondary market in non-gold coins from the Royal Mint, that he has announced a boycott. http://www.antiquestradegazette.com...-a-right-royal-mint-rip-off,-says-top-dealer/
I quite like the Beijing Olmpics Participation Medals. Picked them up awhile ago for less then $50 and they are selling for over $150 on ebay. The Olympic Participation Medals has a reasonable collectors market. http://olympic-museum.de/quickview/all_partmed.htm
Being sterling, they'll probably end up being worth less than spot  Canada produced some beautiful sterling coins for the 1976 Olympics - can often pick those up for less than spot these days. But in the short term who knows - could go up in value if they don't sell many and they become rare.
^^^ I picked up Canadian Olympic coins for the Calgary Winter Olympics for all different sports at spot +$1 and the Montreal Olympics at spot +$1 also. The shop I went to in the US had hundreds of them for sale. The Calgary coins are proof finish also whereas Montreal are bullion BUT are more than an ounce in size, perhaps 1.25 ounces from memory.
