Well said. I would not want to have this in any case and particularly if the person who lost it was the legitimate rightly owner.
As it was found in Perth I think it may be the proceeds of crime. Without hijacking the thread, seeing gold in this form does bring back some great memories.
Many, many years ago I was working as a stockman with an old prospector. When you went to his house he had gold lying around in old jam jars and tobacco tins. This is the only time I have seen gold in this form. I can imagine him just putting it in his top pocket and walking around with it.
This was many years ago and different times but I would hope that most people are honest enough to hand it in just in case that the person who lost it had worked honestly to get it.

If you found a bundle of cash in the park, would you hand it in?

Completely unfounded conspiracy time, just for fun...
The people who found it actually own it, and they are trying to "clean" it by pretending they found it, hand it to the cops and get it back 6 months or whatever later when no one can prove to own it.

Not in a park but on the road.

I found a wallet which had 800 dollars in it plus ID, I found the lady on face book and within 24 hours she had her money back.

Exactly why I would have handed it into police as well, who is going to claim that now? Once it's unclaimed the finder should be entitled to legally keep it.

I've found a couple of wallets with similar amount of cash. If it has ID I always find the owner.
I also have got several thousand dollars in cash in an envelope in my letter box with no name on it. But a note inside mentioned something that I thought might have been associated with a neighbour on the street. I checked , and sure enough it was theirs and was returned.
I've also found cash on the street and in a shopping centre. I waited around for someone to come looking, but they didn't, so into my pocket it went.

That is a valid argument I guess. Although has anyone ever really tested this something very valuable?

Pretty sure they are. Can't remember how many days have to pass but think it might be 3 months. Any cash or object I've handed in has always been claimed and followed up by a very thankful phone call from (hopefully) the right owner. Wallets get posted back Express as a nice surprise for the owner :)

Unmarked $100k is a whole different matter though, I'd assume 99% would keep it.

I would be worried about getting it back, unless police can assure me no one will find out who I am lol.

I'm pretty sure $100k in a brown paper bag is what a NSW politician would call a planning approval for a major development.

    I found this interesting,
"If the bar was pure gold it would be worth approximately $100,000. If it is less than 10 per cent pure gold, it could still be valued at close to $10,000."

2.5kg's of pure gold would be worth a bit more than that.
Anyone else find that main stream media always seem to talk the value of gold down?
I am also surprised the cleaners even recognized it as gold, I am siding with the conspiracy theory that they are trying to legitimize money by claiming it back 6 months later

We found a wallet when we were kids. My parents called the guy who started verbal abuse over the phone. First he claimed we stole his wallet, then he claimed we took all the cash. Despite all this we still posted it to him (at our cost).
