I am curious as to the scarcity of the 2011 Pandas in light of the current mintage of 6,000,000, a 750% increase over 2010 run. I had heard that most of the 2011s would stay in China. Any idea of how many were released internationally and also with the announced 2012 mintage of 8,000,000 will we see the same thing?

I think is a crazy pay 50% over spot for a bullion of 6 millions mintage to invest. To collection is ok all. I prefer pay two or three times bullion for mintages of 200 thousands or less.

Here in Germany the best offer is 25 % over spot. Do you think that this is also too much to pay for a bullion coin with 6 million mintage?

Here are the current German prices in Euro and USD and their price compared to silver spot price. I think 27 % over spot is good compared to the prices of the other bullion coins, but if the silver price goes to usd 25 next week, the picture changes. I see the 2011 more as an alternative to the Silver Eagle and the Maple Leaf which are the staples of most stackers.

    YEAR EUR USD over spot
    Panda 2008 48,99 66,20 103 %
    Panda 2009 49,00 66,20 103 %
    Panda 2009A 50,14 67,75 108 %
    Panda 2011 30,79 41,60 27 %

If those prices in USD are correct, then I would be buying up the 2008 and 2009. Pricepedia values them at closer to $80.

Forget about spot price when it comes to the vast majority of pandas, basically anything but the current year, it will have little affect on the sale price of the coin.

Thanks, Anthony! I would pick them all up if I had the funds, but I will definitely buy some. The comparison to spot was more to show that I think the price of 2011 still is reasonable at 27 % higher than spot when comparing to what we are prepared to pay for other years, and still feel it's quite a bargain.

I spent my morning trying to convince stackers that numismatics isn't a total waste on a European forum. Some are only in it for the number of ounces you get for your fiat. Quite the opposite of the panda forum. I could get 4 oz of silver for around 4000 usd if i got 2x frosted and 2x mirrored 2000, or I could get around 100 oz of the 2011 silver panda. Or any other combination of the coins mentioned above. In the long run, what's the best choice? If only we knew...

Sorry, a silly question but these prices are raw coins, right? Not graded? Thanks.
