This is a very interesting question many people worry about a fake 1oz panda, but not about fake kilo bars.
Hard to believe the Chinese do not fake the much more profitable and easier to fake bars.
Maybe heaps of them around, but when we buy a panda we look all over the coin for every little sing, but when comes to bars we just toss them to the stack.
One more reason I like coins anyway.

I think the reason they aren't faking PAMP bars or whatever is because they don't really have access to them that easily in China.

The pandas made by shenyang mint are easily accessible for them and that's why they can fake them with ease. They can literally steal the moulds off the production line over there unlike PM coins.

wouldn't volume of a bar make the dimensions of a fake easier to pick by a larger magnitude then coins? i.e mm as opposed to fractions of a mm

Why anyone is measuring the size of the kilo bars?
Poured silver bars can vary in weight and sizes anyway
Silver also not gold, and can be substituted easier with a correct mix of other metals to get the same density.

Yes, I've also wondered about this. There have previously been fake Engelhards, although these were easy to spot. And a simple density test doesn't really differentiate between silver and a silver cased molybdenum/lead combination. Even an XRF would have difficulty detecting this if the casing was reasonably thick. Coring the bar is an unfortunate waste of a small amount of silver, so the real test is to melt the thing and re-bar. Nobody is likely to take this approach with their monster boxes... Having said that, I've noticed the majority of bars I've had from respected mints/refiners are generally a little overweight, and can afford to lose a little for assay, but not over and over...

I am sure as price goes up on silver we will here more about fake bars being better quality as they became more profitable for the crooks

The larger brands will most likely get targeted, I'm guessing. For this reason I've personally decided to not purchase the carded Pamps. They seem like an obvious target :/ . Why fake intricate coins when........................ I think I'll say :| more.
