Announcement regarding advertising on Silver Stackers

Discussion in 'Forum News / Announcements' started by Administrator, Jun 25, 2014.

  1. Due to an upcoming international move by the Australian owners of Silver Stackers, Silver Stackers will cease business activities in Australia on 30th June 2014. All existing current-paid advertisers have been advised this evening in detail of the changes.

As a result of the cessation of business activities in Australia, ALL forms of paid advertising on Silver Stackers will cease on 30th June 2014, the current date to which all advertising is currently paid for all current advertisers. No renewals of advertising will be accepted prior or subsequent to this date, and as of 1st July 2014, no paid advertising of any nature will be displayed on the Silver Stackers forum. This includes existing and pending banner advertising, sponsor forums, individual site sponsorships, affiliate programs and Google AdWords.

Paid advertising is likely to recommence at a future date, however will be through an internationally-domiciled entity outside of Australia.

The existing free private trading forums will remain in place, and all advertisers are invited to utilise this free service to continue to engage with the Silver Stackers community.

The following Q&A may be of assistance with understanding the changes.

    Q. Is Silver Stackers forum closing down?
    A. NO - the Silver Stackers forum will continue to operate. Business activities (such as the selling of advertising) will be ceasing, however the forum will remain live, and effectively revert to a privately operated website with no business activities or revenue, operated at personal expense.

    Q. Is Silver Stackers being sold?
    A. NO - the forum is not being sold. Business activities however will cease in Australia, and the owners are moving overseas. It is necessary to definitively cease trading in Australia as part of the owners' change in residency. Part of ceasing to trade is the discontinuation of paid advertising after 30th June 2014.

    Q. What will happen to banner ads / sponsor forums after 30th June?
    A. Banner ads will cease to be displayed on the forum, and existing sponsor forums will be archived.

    Q. What will happen to the Site Sponsor status of members after 30th June?
    A. Legacy Site Sponsor statuses will be deactivated. All members with a status of Site Sponsor will revert to a complementary Silver Stackers membership level. The sale of 12 month Site Sponsor statuses was suspended some time ago, and all existing paid Site Sponsor statuses have reached the end of the 12 month sponsorship periods long ago. Part of the cessation of business activities in Australia will be the definitive ending of the Site Sponsor program in its previous form.

    Q. Can I continue to advertise on Silver Stackers?
    A. PAID advertising is being discontinued on Silver Stackers. Existing advertisers are welcome to continue promoting their services to the members of the forum for free while paid advertising is unavailable, however this should only be conducted through posts made in the Buy, Sell & Swap forums such as Australia & New Zealand (Public). Posts made in this section of the forum remain live for 30 days after posting. A forum login is required in order to be able to make posts.

    Q. Is everyone's advertising ceasing on this date?
    A. Yes, all banner advertising, individual site sponsorships and sponsor forums ends on this date, for every advertiser.

    Q. Will advertising return again in the future?
    A. At this time it is envisaged that at some point in the future, an international entity will take over the commercial aspects of Silver Stackers, including the sale of advertising, and commercial advertising offered for sale to former and prospective advertisers.

    Q. What about regular Silver Stackers memberships?
    A. Regular Silver Stackers memberships (currently being offered for $35 AUD or 1oz of silver) will remain available for purchase until 30th June 2014. From 1st July onwards new memberships will not be available for purchase. All existing paid Silver Stackers memberships are for the lifetime of the forum, and are not impacted. It is expected that they will become available again in the future.

    Q. What about the Silver Stackers meetings?
    A. Silver Stackers meetings are not a business activity of the forum, and will continue to operate in Australia (and elsewhere around the world) for as long as the members involved are willing to donate their time to organise these events. I cannot believe how successful these meetings have become, and they genuinely have grown organically from the community, so it's been an honour to have had a hand on the tiller of this website since it started operating 5 years ago, and to see a real community come together from a whole bunch of people who may have otherwise never met, traded, become friends, business partners, frenemies, enemies, or all of the other sorts of relationships that make up this wonderful forum!

    Q. So Goldpelican, when are you off?
    A. I'm declining to publicly discuss work or personal details related to my move at this time for privacy reasons, but will be a bit more forthcoming once my family is resettled, kids are back at school and the first ex-pat beer has been opened.

Damn, gonna be sorry to see you go GP. Hopefully you'll stick your head in from time to time and play some kind of sick joke on us fools. :)

Best of luck to you and your family.

Gold Stackers Australia Pty Ltd is totally unrelated to Silver Stackers.

We, like the other advertisers, look forward to hearing about when we can re-commence advertising with a new entity.

There are no implications for Gold Stackers as a business in any way due to goldpelican relocating overseas.

We will be at the next Melbourne Stackers Meeting as normal (minus a Pelican).

No, the forum is not for sale. It is simply ceasing business activities in Australia because of my move overseas.

As per the announcement, paid advertising and paid memberships will be ceasing 30th June, so there won't be any payments being made to any accounts anywhere.

I'm on record in several places stating that Silver Stackers is meant to be an international forum in terms of a community - even with roughly two thirds of the current traffic originating from Australia, 1 in 3 visitors to the site come from outside of Australia. To answer your question though, no, Silver Stackers will not be "Australian" in terms of a business entity - it is ceasing business activities in Australia, and reverting to a privately operated website for a time while the owners cease Australian residency.

The only changes you should see day-to-day are the lack of advertising.

Thanks for the clarification, never having been to the shop I always thought Goldstackers was a one man operation run by GP, a bit like a pawn shop but more upmarket.

I figured if Goldpelican flew the coup then everything would be going as well. Glad to hear Goldstackers will still be operating.

Not at all :) It's a large business with a number of employees - I'm one of several stakeholders - just the most visible online.
