Need some words of wisdom from anyone who has clues on the 5 oz America the Beautiful BU coins Have my eyes on a couple. Gettysburg National Military Park and Glacier National Park ..in MS 69 grade . What would they be worth? Cheers!
Close to other bullions. They dont come in capsules. They are not numiatmatic yet. You can get monster boxes of them from most international dealer.
Thanks, jpanggy. These are slabbed and graded by PCGS.. I have been doing some delving into past threads on these and find the mintage is 500,00 for the 2011 series..
They're at least SEMI-numis here in the states. Def not simple bullion, not even when they were released by the mint.
Sorry, did not read properly. There are some interest in usa, when they first came out, their hype was strong, US Mint has to step in to ensure no price gouging, but since then interest has not been amazingly strong. Not sure about australia.
It may be that I just like the 5 oz size..larger images and all that. Perhaps these will sleep for awhile and go all pandafragelisticexpeallidocious

Be aware that there are different versions of the ATB coins - proof and bullion. The proof coins have limited mintages, the bullion coins do not. One has a frosted texture, one is shiny (I foget which is which). I may or may not ( ) own some of the bullion coins and like them.
Regardless of their rareness etc, as far as design and appearance go, they are a striking coin. Being a giant Quarter is an interesting facet too.
Thanks for following up on this thread..still looking for a couple of these big beauties. Might have to drop Projack a Pm and talk turkey on his set
The two versions of the 5oz ATBs are BU and UNC (Uncirculated). The 2010 BU coins (with the mirror finish) have a mintage of 33,000 per coin and are graded MS by the TPG. The UNC versions of these same coins have a mintage of 27,000/coin and are graded SP (Specimen). There are no Proof versions of these to date. The 2011 coins have mintages of something like 126,500 (MS) and 35,000 (SP) respectively.
Thank you for correcting my imprecise description. It was my understanding that the BU coins (sold via dealers - what I called bullion) did not have hard limits on the minting. My 2011 ATB coins did not come with any MS/numismatic grading.
You are not the only one confused about this issue. Heck, the Mint is confused! I was in from the start in 2010, purchased one of the first 2010 BU sets from Apmex, experienced the subsequent halt of sales, the restart of sales and the tortuous paths devised by some of the authorized purchasers in order to purchase a set. Crazy? Yes, but what a ride that was. Now they have a problem with inflated mintages for the 2011s meeting, yawn, a disinterested public. This will go down as one of the Mint's less than stellar moments. But, in the Mint's defense they were hamstrung from the git go by Congress which I can expound upon if you are interested. The eloquent word "Fustercluck" was tossed around repeatedly during this odyssey.
And to continue with the wackiness the 2010 set of 5 ATBs BU (33,000 mintage) apparently is still available at the link provided. They are still roughly $862 + $60 S&H = $922 ($36.88/oz). Not bad but going through this authorized purchaser is a bit of a pain with paperwork and over a month for delivery which is probably why these are still available. If spot was $100/oz this set would still be $862 + $60 S&H because the Mint stated the APs couldn't move the price. The 2011s on the other hand float with spot. The 2010 set is a strange duck. Oh, limit one per address. http://www.bache.com/view/page/bache/17373 All prices are USD and I have no idea about intl shipping.
