I don't know if anyone else has this issue, but sometimes when accessing the site via internet explorer - I get redirected to a VentraIP address, asking me if I want to purchase domains? Sometimes it can go to another site, reporting any issues with the server - I've no idea how it does this, but its a pain in the arse wh you want to send someone a PM about a bit of business! Its not a site downtime issue or anything, as everytime this happens, it works fine accessing the site on my phone. It is indeed a strange one Watson... RD
If that happened to me and the site worked well from isolated networks (which I would test immediately), I'd suspect DNS poisoning, a browser hijack or other man-in-the-middle attack. O_O
Works fine here on IE... I agree with ^, MITM or DNS poisoning for sure. Try pinging the forum IP see if you get the right IP also check if there are any evil toolbars installed.
Nope - VentraIP is the webhost for Silver Stackers, I suspect DNS issues rather than malicious behaviour. I've asked them to investigate.
Mmm one was, the others have been issues from shared web hosting, like other users runaway scripts. The Alchemy Challenge (one I do a swap this weekend!) is funding a future VPS.
So let me get this straight GP wants a screenshot jnkmbox suspects DNS poisoning Fisball's workin fine on the IE and agree's with ^,MITM or DNS & wants to ping the IP to check for evil Then GP reveals VentraIP is webhost for SS Meanwhile jnkmbox has an epiphany and recalls DNS issues Then GP goes into a spiderman web hosting sequel with some runaway scripts RythmnDoctor rightly goes Wtf REDBACK thinks he's just tuned into SBS GP explains it succinctly with "The computer said no" And RythmnDoctor coughs While REDBACK's seriously looking for the SS subtitle button! :/
Damn right you are! Subtitles time: When you try and go to a website, your computer tries to resolve the website name into an IP Address of the form xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. The name, for example "forums.silverstackers.com" is the DNS which resolves to the IP Address of "223.130.24.90". DNS poisoning is when someone or some program intercepts your requests and feeds you some other crap. For example, say you're trying to drive to Box Hill and you put it in your GPS but someone hacks your GPS to lead you to Clayton instead. Or if you're trying to go to these forums and somebody redirects you to evil evil porn sites instead. IE is internet explorer, it is the most horrible piece of crap ever to plague our world. I exaggerate but ya know... MITM is man in the middle attack, so somebody is sitting between you and your target website either trying to steal your information or feed you bullsh*t. Pinging the IP is like checking whether or not you can reach the destination. VentraIP is the web hosting company which hosts this website and Goldstackers.com This website runs on a shared website hosting platform. That means there are maybe, 50 or more different websites being serviced off the same computer (or IP Address). When an idiot or careless person sets the scripts wrong they can go haywire (infinite loops for example) and take up all the system resources which means less for the other 49 websites! This may cause the websites to be unable to be accessed.
