    I would recommend that you and Hawkeye go and read Family Fortunes "How to build Family Wealth and Hold onto it for 100 years, by Bill Bonner and Will Bonner

    Even if you don't agree with his conclusions there is a lot to like about this book

    ^^^^^^^ If you read the book they express similar sentiments that you express about choosing your own path. Your child can choose his own path but still be involved with the family in an exercise of delayed gratification. Its not just about money. We all need someones shoulders to stand on. As my children have turned into young adults sometimes it is the wife and I who stand on their shoulders.

    Not wealth in the literal sense.

    Wealth has more meanings than just dollars and cents.

    'Wealth' as in family, relationships, health and other such concepts we value as humans.
