Has anyone been stacking/swapping/selling 925? I picked up a few years some nice rings/pendants/earings
with semi-precious stones such as garnets, labradorite, amethyst, tiger's eye....

Have only the following left out of a big bag. As they made great gifts and also sold to women at work so I could buy more bullion.

    18 rings
    2 pendants
    4 pairs earrings

Am wanting to get rid of the last of these @$20-$40, depending on size

I smelted more than 200 oz of 925 jewellery to some rough bars... traded those bars for SE back in July. :D

nice! I haven't got into this yet but I'm sure there are deals to be made at garage sales and swap meets and other places. I need to get to some common markings to look for besides 'sterling' or .925. And the stones, did you value those in when you purchased them ? How much do you usually pay for 'scrap' silver jewelry based off its weight ?

I was studying at the gemmological association of australia (http://www.gem.org.au) a couple of years ago and as a student
was able to go to the jewellers wholesale trade show held in september each year.....i saw this store called 'house of tibet' and bought a couple
of rings...i went back on the last day 30 mins before close and the guy was selling last years stock at wholesale less 25% so i quickly filled a bag...the total
came to 1100 and i offered him 900 ( i had more money on me )..he ummed and arrd and then took the money...

i went for stones that were cut 'cabochon' or 'multi-faceted' and only silver rings/pendants that were intricate, ie, more workmanship, labour involved.
anything plane i left. the stones i went for the best in its class..ie, i got amethyst (purple quartz) over citrine(which is amethyst heated to make it yellow)
garnets i went for deep red and the lighter reds i left, so i did factor in the quality of the gems.

925 is about as much engraving that can be done to identify the quality of the silver.

not sure what some would pay for 925 silver based on price of silver per ounce as there is quite a bit of labour that goes into plus over heads, ect.
i think a jeweller marks up 300% on what they buy it for.

    hope this helps/

i get offered so much scrap silver its not funny...... atm i dont buy it as its a pain in the ass (too heavy when buying kilo's), but ill soon be buying it and refining into granules...

We sell a fair bit of silver jewellery also from Italy...... gold plated silver or silver with stone sets is whats in for fashion atm.
