Just went to a local crypto group meeting (kinda like a Silver Stackers meeting but just crypto). One of the presentations was by a technical trader who analysed what $100 in each of the top 20 coins by market cap on 1st Jan 2017 would have been worth after 12 months. $2000 down and held (HEDL?) was $110,000 in December. 55x initial outlay. No trading, no taking profits, no balancing. Just set and forget. Just goes to show you're not going to get a lambo by investing a few hundred bucks
So getting some free crypto from faucets, posting on steem, etc and holding it could be worth millions in the future? Zero financial risk? Crypto is a scam!
Not only that, but compare the same with returns on Metals in the same time frame as well. A single Oz of gold doing the same thing.
Just realized that this was just for 2016, what about the returns from then including 2017 as well where we saw enormous growth in the Crypto Market. ?
Amen to that, southerncross, with your help I stack the $amount of 1 oz gold into some altcoins only about 2 months back. The value is now 2X plus. Appreciate your kindness and patience

Yes, I am gambling, my table money is a grand 31.1gm . Happy if it go to a million or to zero. Heck, I lost more than that in the lottery!
I've been looking at past years performance of this strategy, compared to just buying BTC, or buying just the top 20 coins that are under $1 each. Even with the horror years of 2014/15 that went backwards, you would have been ahead for any combination of doing this for three years in a row since 2013, even before the windfall returns of 2017. 2017 returns for $2k in the top 20 under $1 would have been $219k. Over 100x returns. Doing some more research on this, but over the past five years this "buy and hold" strategy would have been a valid approach. Question is how often will 2017 sized returns come around.
