Hey all, was just looking through some old stuff today and come across some bank notes which were stashed away. One of the notes is a $5 note which is missing the 5. It was originally found in 1992 and together with the note there is a newspaper clipping from when it was on the front page of the local newspaper. Would anyone have a clue what this might be worth to a collector?
Thanks that would be great I also have a $20 paper note which is missing the serial on both sides, I had a quick look around some websites and it seems like its fairly common. Back to the $5 - you can kind of see the bottom of the 5 as a black dot, as if it started printing but then stopped... odd DEAL!
Ok got a little bit of info for you. Firstly, it is a general prefix 1992 issue Fraser / Cole are the signatures. It is a general prefix, AA00 being First release. This series has two variations a Med - Dark Green Serial numbers and Pale Serial numbers. Pale is the slightly more expensive option. In UNC cond a general prefix is worth around, $45 - $110 you need to add the error in now. I referenced a $5 from 1983 with all of the missing intaglio again a general prefix, so a bigger error than yours. It's For Sale price was $1,600 and UNC, so huge premium for a large error. If we took this as 50% error as it is all on one side. Yours is a missing Value or approximately 1% - 5% error. Working on similar markups. I would think the value of yours is somewhere near $500 - $700 for this type of error. Condition of the note is paramount, any creases snicks or tears will drop this value significantly. Would be keen to hear others and if I am way out. I have not looked at error notes for some time. For your reference here are a few other listings with different errors, notice how the condition effects the price big time. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/22113887...ksid=p4340.l2557&orig_cvip=true#ht_500wt_1414 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/32099250...ksid=p4340.l2557&orig_cvip=true#ht_500wt_1414 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/30078656...ksid=p4340.l2557&orig_cvip=true#ht_657wt_1395 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/26109804...ksid=p4340.l2557&orig_cvip=true#ht_500wt_1414 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/31042544...ksid=p4340.l2557&orig_cvip=true#ht_771wt_1395
