Apparently this year over 1 billion phones will be sold.. if the average phone has 0.35grams of silver then thats 35million? http://www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?containerId=prUS24645514
But that estimate of 0.35 grams seems to be almost a decade old: http://www.eoearth.org/view/article/150977/ Also interesting is the gold content of 0.034g each, which would mean a total of 1 million ounces gold for 1 billion phones. Palladium too... Anyone have any numbers for a modern smart phone?
I wonder how correct this article is. It is very interesting to say the least http://www.electronicproducts.com/C...ow_much_precious_metal_is_in_your_iPhone.aspx
Hello, An article from 2009, from Umicore, the biggest recycler in the world, said that it needs 50000 mobiles for 1 kilo gold. That's 0.02 gram gold per mobile. A later article, 21/02/2013 http://ewasteguide.info/visualizing-worlds-e 24000/1000000=0.024 gram gold per mobile 250000/1000000=0.25 gram silver per mobile In a report, dated 29/03/2012, is stated that 2% of worlds mobile phones are recycled. So, 2% on a worldproduction of 1 billion, is a supply of 5 Moz So this topics author, lshallperish, is now able to correct this threads title. Regards, Minnie Pirocco Data Processor #3
They recover 1kg of gold per 2.5 tonne's of mobile phones. Along with many other metals, mobile phones are seriously awesome, but you can say the same for laptops, pdf's, tablets, lcd tv's, pc's, medical equipment etc. there's precious metals and rare earths in everything electrical, I love e-waste. BTW, don't believe the large recycling companies, the're not in the business to tell the public how much they make from the e-waste they get paid to recycle. they make just as much out of the other PM's in a phone, even the plastic they sell.
Oh that's right I forgot, companies listed on the stock market are 100% legitimate and disclose all business activities, yep, got it.
All that is needed to 'disclose', for this topic, is the amount mobiles they recycle, and the amount silver from it. Maybe check producents, maybe they use 0.10 or 0.50 instead of 0.25 gram silver per mobile. You can question those too then. And while you're busy at it, why not questioning the entire world, except for some blogs you may visit?
Just take it like a man, man. it's easy to ramble on and confuse the issue. simply saying, yeah good point, you are right, I am wrong, de bono style is all it takes.
Take what? Confuse which issue? I said "Umicore told the goverment, and they're subjected to reporting based on their stock market presence." Your comments were 'no believe' flags. I thus mentioned some verification methods. And then you went the man man ramble confuse win/lose discussion bono style way. Hey! Feel free to believe, and/or ignore, whatever you want! GRUMBLE GRUMBLE GRUMBLE TEDDY BEAR!
That's two posts in a row you end with an indirect insult and we barely know each other, your the one with issues here, you can't chill out. I'm in the business so I think I have some insights into the industry so that's the end of the story. So that's two insults I still owe you. Delerium Tremens? keep your magnesium level up buddy.
Look at the sun. That's also an indirect insult. Now you have 3 insults on your counter buddy. Or make it 4, that counter is also an insult.
